"The long five-month wait is finally over. Formula 1 roars back into life in Australia this weekend with the 2007 opener one of the most eagerly anticipated races in years.

With double world champion Fernando Alonso and likely title rival Kimi Raikkonen adjusting to new teams, a crop of young stars ready to make their mark and one of the most competitive fields in F1 history, it should be an absolute cracker of a season".

As a McLaren fan I'm feeling smug having the World Champion racing for us, but I'll be willing Kimi on for his first Championship title albeit in a Ferrari.

Whoa, What a drive by Lewis Hamilton, this guy is gonna be amazing to watch. The British have a driver to cheer on, Jenson Bend-over Button should watch and learn.

At the risk of appearing a complete ignoramus, isn't he just driving a faster car than most of the others? :lorks:

Well, yes the McLaren is one of the fastest cars this season. But Hamilton drove his first Grand Prix in style, starting in an impressive 4th on the grid he went behind at the lights, then cooly took 3rd spot by the first corner, overtaking his team mate and current world Champion Alonso. He remained in front of him for more than half of the race, losing out on a 2nd place in a pit stop.

I'm sure to be biggin' him up here over the next few months.

I havent followed Formula 1 for years so forgive my stupidity (hell, it was only last night I found out Shumy finally retired heheheh) but... wasnt the new circuit in Dubai (or somewhere like that) meant to be the first race of the racing calendar?

He did well. Lets not start crowning him world champ just yet though. As we all know people can get a bit excited in this country a bit too soon!
Good to see Coulthard is still up their with the best!

Sure but he's no Tim Henman, I'm ready for a wager or two.

You must have seen the fanfare around Melbourne over the last week, non?!
Of course... it was pretty hard to miss!
What I was asking was whether or not Dubai's race was the first on the calendar (like January), now that theyve finished building the track. I dont follow Formula 1 anymore and I could have sworn that I read in F1 magazine that Dubai was the first cab off the formula 1 rank, so to speak.
Ah to hell with it. I'll just Google it.

Can we get excited NOW? The Malaysian race was the most exciting for years, and the 'Ham' drove like a champion, a true professional.

Cor goodness bummin 'eck !

Actually some people making comments on F1 .. tres bon !. Big fans myself and the good lady have been for years ..pleased to say that one day when I commented " but it's just a load of cars going round and round " She sat and talked me through the whole thing . It's fascinating stuff if you follow the whole thing .. the development, the testing, sponsor deals, internal politics and nepotism . and of course various strategies . Has had me on the edge of my seat on many a sunday each to their own of course !. Did get mildly bored when schumi kept winning !.The A1 ring race when he seemd to squeeze past Barichello was ajoke.. . no mistaking the talent and probs the best racing driver in years tho ..next to franji or senna .. but just followed the sport .. ecclestone and his continued rule changes is always a bit of fun .. The drivers dont seem to be the bad boys with money they used to be ..like Hunt and Irvine etc.. but its all great fun .. Regarding Lewis Hamilton ..the boy is a star .. he has the skills, the balls and the determination to make it . Brave little bugger too ..hopefully if he doesnt get too exited and doesnt splat into the wall he could have been a very suitable adversary for Schumii ..and yes I will certainly punt a century or somethin on him depending on his next race ..actually as he has now finished 3rd, and second :Master: in his last two races ..I wonder what the odds are on him winning the next one? .. Paddy Power website time methinks ..

Toodles

:)

Not the most exciting race, though plenty of incidents, but after the Spanish Grand Prix this is something to behold

2007 Drivers Championship.

1 Lewis Hamilton
2 Fernando Alonso
3 Felipe Massa
4 Kimi Räikkönen

Yeah it's early days but what the hell, if the Ham continues performing in the qualifying to keep putting himself on the first two rows of the grid, keeps his head during the race then it's possible that we could have an outsider being a real threat to the drivers championship for Alonso.

So thats the sports personality of the year wrapped up all ready.

Shame it's not really a sporting contest, and that only four people probably have any chance of winning it. But team of the year, that would be a different matter, at least then you would be congratulating the people who prepared the car, provided the tyres, tested it, etc' I am sure Lewis Hamilton is an excellent driver, but put him in a Super-Aguri and he'd be nowhere! ;)

Now thats a very interesting theory however I could be wrong but I think that LH has climbed up through the ranks .. in other areas, karting and other formulae racing where you have to be pretty good ..it isn't all just about the car as Schumi once said .. it's about the driver .AND more important the TEAM.. pit crrew , designers, etc etc .. Case in point the disaster that is Jenson ... world at his feet a few years ago .. deal with williams etc etc.. but still couldnt cut the mustard regardless of the car and now he is plummeting back down the ranks again . Equally yesterdays sterling drive By DC to get a 5 spot in the red bull was brilliant and then Taku ending up on 8 was also a hell of a result for S agurri.. so i guess there needs to be the god given talent as well as the car . i think it would be interesting to see what would happen if the drivers did swap cars for the weekend .. although sato might not be the best person to swap with as he keeps crashing! anyway top result I thought looking forward to the next one

They may have luck to credit for it but Super Aguri can rightly claim to the proud owner of their first ever Formula 1 point after a marvellous drive by Takuma Sato, finishing in eighth place in the Spanish Grand Prix.
DC has still got it, he showed that in Bahrain, coming from the back to the top eight until he retired mid way through the race.

McLaren the early pacesetters in Canada

08 June 2007. Practice sesson.
Contrary to the expectations of those who envisaged Ferrari having a clear advantage round Montreal's Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve, McLaren held the upper hand - albeit by a scant margin - when the first hour and a half of practice ended on Friday morning ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix.

Fernando Alonso lapped in 1m 17.759s to head the times, with Lewis Hamilton again impressing on a circuit new to him to take second place in 1m 17.967s.

I sense this is going to be an interesting race.
