What a race. What an amazing drive by Hamilton. What an exciting, incident packed Grand Prix.

The highlight for me apart from seeing The Ham win, Sato's cheeky move on Alonso, brave man.

I feel quite emotional after all that drama.

edit; accident meant incident packed Grand Prix. That Kubica crash was horrific.

Well, it was certainly a more interesting race than Monaco, that's for sure. Whilst I am pleased to see LH win, I can't help wondering just how much more coverage ITV will give to him now.

However.. much as ITV are worshipping LH, they obviously think his first ever win is still
not as important as Coronation Street. I suspect that's what Steve "Rimmer" Rider had
been told after the race as we saw him mouth some "F" word to someone off camera whilst
talking to Mark Blundell post-race.

Be interesting to see what happens when the Lewis Hamilton show hits the USA next week.
I think the psych damage on Alonso on not bein Ron "Smiler" Dennis's favoured son is only
going to make things worse. He can console himeself that at least he is not in the position
of Kimi Raikonnen.

Michael.

Steve Ryder welcomed ITV’s viewers to the coverage of the Canadian Grand Prix:

" We make no apologies if our race build-up is dominated by Lewis Hamilton because F1 itself is dominated by Lewis Hamilton"

The hype-ometer has gone into overdrive following the British star’s maiden pole position - with one newspaper even claiming he’s “about to quit McLaren.

“Lewis quit warning†is the sensational headline on the Daily Mirror. “Lewis Hamilton warned he will quit Vodafone McLaren if he is ever regarded as a No.2 driver.â€

And where is the quote to back up this bold statement? Down in paragraph nine : “I hate the situation Rubens [Barrichello] was in [i.e. at Ferrari]… If that was ever the case for me I would not be there much longer.â€

That’s a long way away from a threat to quit McLaren. But that won’t stop the tabloids trying to pretend Ron Dennis is the bogeyman. From the same piece:

“Several promising futures have been shipwrecked on an agreement to play second fiddle to another driver, among them the talent of David Coulthard while he was at McLaren with Mika Hakkinen.†No, Coulthard just wasn’t quick enough.

Do you see Coulthard criticising McLaren’s management of Hamilton? Read his words from earlier this week:

The British media clearly felt Lewis had been hard done by. They have given the media a potential British world champion this year. So don’t turn around and make McLaren out to be the big bad racing team screwing the nice British driver.

And where did he write those words? On ITV-F1.com.

Perhaps ITV’s reporters should read their own website.

It certainly was, the latest report on Kubica is that he hasn't actually broken his leg, he has a sprained ankle. Sorry but how t.f can you escape serious injury when you crash a car like that. He must have some angels looking after him! I/we were on the edges of our seats all through the race. Can't wait for next week, same time, same sofa. (Sorry Tom!)

Lets hope that now Mr Hamilton has proved that he is human afterall, and that McLaren can be beaten, that the press can get some perspective. Lets all calm down, and give the lad a break. I have a horrible feeling we have been setting this fella up for another classic British failure story. We have got to be the worst nation in the world for building folk up to the point of hysteria, and then trashing them when they don't match up to the over-inflated image we have created around them!

I am sure he'll bounce back, and might finish top of the standings, but all this talk of outdoing Shumaker is ludicrous, we are in danger of ruining this kid before he gets started. Let us just enjoy his success as it comes and stop looking 10 years hence.

And when I say 'us', I obviously don't mean me, as you have already guessed I am not too much of a fan. McLaren is though a great British insitution, and the HQ is very impressive, we turned round in their driveway on the way to watch Rangers vs Woking in the FA Trophy season before last.

Starting from 10th, lets hope he can at least get into the points.
Even if he doesn't get into the points he will still lead the championship by 2 points, but I suspect he will get into the points.

So looking forward to hearing Murray too!

C,mon Lewis

Wow what a race..........

Little Alonso, what a fantastic overtaking move he made on Massa :master:

And did you see Schumacher's face when he handed over the winners construction trophy to Ron Dennis

Shame about young Lewis but as he said it was a different experience as he usually heads straight to be weighed and then to the podium. He had a marvellous race though. Fair play to him

Now I'm watching the superbikes! I love motorsport Sundays

I wish I could lip read, to know what Massa was saying to Alonsa before the podium bit, though I could probably guess.

He was probably saying "Thank god we were here racing instead of having to watch the race on telly." Sorry, I know this is another case of 'Well, why comment on a thread which you have no interest in?!!' (like the BB8 one..), but it's only interesting when someone crashes, like Hamilton in the qualifying bit. It's a crap way to enjoy a sport cos it means someone may be injured, or even worse killed, but it's the most boring sport i've ever been unfortunate to watch. Anyone who requires ammo to come back at me: i like watching snooker and darts.

this is the sport of kings.. however, i don't want to derail this thread, so let's at least wait for the Pot Black cup or something, eh? ;)

Not really watched F1 for about 8 years, it got really boring. More like watching a scalextric track, nobody ever seemed to overtake. Been told its got a lot better now though?

Still don't watch it though, Sundays are for regretting Saturday and watching cartoons.
