Foureyes seeks cheapness

One for all the speccy wearers out there - anyone got any recommendations for somewhere to get a pair of glasses without having to hand over body parts as payment?

I had a flick through www.glassesdirect.co.uk and they seem to have implemented the revolutionary idea of *letting you type in the size of your current glasses* and then *only showing you glasses that are that size*!!!!! (None of the other online stores I've found do this, and there is no way on God's earth I am sitting through pages and pages of "Too small... Too small... Too small...")

Anyway, online or IRL - recommendations and advice welcomed.

i recently got my eyes tested at specsavers...only coz it was the closest opticians to my house and i had a £10 eye test voucher.

now, 2 months on from the eye test, and 3 weeks on from narrowing it down to a possible 2 out of 4 frames (bogof on sunglasses), they still havent got in all 3 pairs of frames i ordered and the 1 set they did have in they put back on the shelf and sold coz they could only keep it a week.

not sure if this is actually a recommendation or not but you can get cheap frames and bogofs there- although i have yet to be convinced of the service:angry:

*wonders to self if she should have put this in the rant thread instead*

Yep - I just did the Specsavers BOGOF - straight forward lenses, paid an extra tenner for anti-scratch stuff. Total bill with eye test around £110? I wasn't impressed - this all happened about a week before getting my braces - talk about uber geekness :( But the glasses are fine. One green pair for work, red for me time (obviously!).

I can't believe I am gonna say this but... have you tried ASDA? They have some cheapish ones - just go down with your prescription requirements, have a nose and order.

So, what styley you going for this time? Intellectual, fun and funky, or just plain old skin flint?

Red glasses? Was gonna say rarely see them, but saw a lass wearing a pair last night. You weren't in the Litter Tray were you? If so you should be ashamed of yourself! (As should I, but thats another story)

hmmmm? the big asda is a bit of a ball ache to get to (involves buses- i only do trams) for me...but i might see if anybody knows if they sell glasses at ours.

im thinking purple lizard skin frames for my sunglasses and i cant decide between a red/black pair and 2 pairs of black/white frames for my normal glasses.

i did see a fab pair of 50's style tortoiseshell frames with diamante wings in an independant opticians here...but they were £180 including 20% discount and not including £80 lenses!!!!!

needless to say, i put them very carefully back in the cabinety from whence they came, my 2 yrs worth of westfield wont go that far!

No I wasn't, I was at home being a good TFR doing housework and talking to my hamsters. I only wear my glasses when I need to see far off thing, and when using screens in general (computer, TV etc) so I doubt anyone would catch me out and about in me specs.

I used to pick up old frames from charity shops and car boots etc and then just get new lenses put in. Last time I tryed this though the optician wouldn't do it saying he had no proof I hadn't stollen them!!!! I walked out and refused to sign anything for the NHS/ Dole test he had just done on me.

I've already got the prescription, I got my eyes tested a few weeks ago at Boots. I've ordered a set of plain-lensed glasses from Glasses Direct so i can see what they look like on, and if I like them, the actual glasses are £15 +P&P.

Something not *quite* so Deirdre Barlow as what I've got atm. :) Someone suggested that I go for the Elton John 'star' style. I think not.

ah, you're on wesfield as well? it's a right touch, innit.. i hadn't been to the dentist in 10 years, then i got that westfield plan through work so thought it was high time i took advantage.. i literally went to the first dentist i could find (that looked nice) and said "right mate, i've got £300 to spank - do whatever the hell you like!" lol..

how come you couldn't get those £180 glasses you spied? ms. dirtybobby got two pairs of glasses a couple of months ago (one everyday pair, one sunglasses) and westfield covered both of them!
