This was quite entertaining last year. 1st & 2nd of August.

This year, there's events in the town centre and at Shugborough.

A great, if somewhat damp, event again this year. Many thanks to all those who took the trouble to organise it and to the barrier putter uppers and footpath monitors and whistle blowers who make it all possible on the day.

Watched the men's race from the mini roundabout by the park and saw one accident (fortunately the guy wasn't badly hurt), but couldn't work out who had won it. Clancy and his mate were ahead on every lap but one, where Clancy seemed to disappear. He then reappeared on the following lap. Can anyone tell me who won?

I had little idea of what was actually going on. There was an over-powering Tannoy thing in Greengate Street that I don't remember being so irritating last year, but I couldn't make out a lot of what was relevant. Far more people than I expected, given the immediately preceding weather.

Indeed, which is why we moved away for the men's race. Yes there did seem to be a signifcant number of extra bodies than last year, which has got to be a good thing.

The Swan and the Bear Grill were both packed. Had lunch in the Bear and then afternoon tea (well no tea, but a few jars) at the Swan watching it all from the dry as the Stunt Mountain Biker Blokey did his stuff.

The rather Gallic snack stall - a Citroen H van.

And the Young Man of Hoy - a great device, every home should have one. Keep them entertained and exercised - and, with a simple knot, keep them stored in a non-underfoot location.

got there for the womens race, horrible conditions for them. it was brighter and drier for the mens race. no idea who any of the riders are, I don't follow it, but enjoyed watching it.

There seem to be several H Van snack stalls around, there was a different one at Miller's Dale the other week
