Hey all i'm not sure where i should put this, obviously noone here can give me one, unless you want to give me yours? !

(move if in wrong place)

Anyway i've only got a "short" birth certificate it seems, some jobs seem to want a "full" one, not sure why to be honest, seems stupid

How would i go about getting one in stafford, any help would be great thanks, i think i can do it online, but i guess i could go somewhere in town too?? :stafford:

My parents are a bit clueless :ohno:

Thanks in advance,

Just go to the registry office and request 1. I can't remember what I took with me for mine, but it cost 20 quid. I found the old 1 the day after I forked out for a replacement.

I tried getting one for my son online last year, and it seems impossible! Go to Stafford registry office if you were born in Stafford and apply in person there. If not born in Stafford, then the registry office will be able to give you the phone number of the registry office in the place you were born, and I believe you can order it over the phone (you have to pay either way its done). I would make sure they realise you need a full birth certificate though or you will end up with another short one! Good luck :)

I didnt think you could get a full birth certificate, only one when you born - the copies are just the short ones

Well i think you can somehow, at least.. because you need a full 1 for a passport also, if not looks i'm not going abroad forever in my life!

Thanks for the replys & yes i was born in stafford :)

You can definatly get a full certificate, son did last year for his first 'lads holiday' abroad, he wasnt born in Stafford but Stafford registry/register office were very helpfull. If I remember correctly all he needed to get the certificate was parents names, and name of hospital born in and some cold hard cash :)

yes you can definatly get one from registry office..i got mine a few yrs bk ... filled in my info there and then, my birth certificate was ready about 2 hrs later :D . was a pain for me as i didnt know both my parents full names or date of birth. also the surname which i had been brought up with was apparently not my actual real name...i looked a right idiot, but the staff were very helpful. so just make sure you take all the details you need with you :D

The short ones are the ones you get as standard, you have to pay to get a full one. When my kids were registered I got the short one automatically but had to pay extra for the one with all the full info on....go figure?!

I only got the short on when my daughter was born, I wasn't married at the time - although wedding was booked, they said I'd need to get another after the wedding with my change of name. but then forgot to do that and ordered a full one anyway for my daughter's passport with my maiden name on. Still haven't got round to it, can't say it bothers me too much either.

my daugher had a full big one and then i got a short copy - that was in 1998 in birmingham, so perhaps counties work different or the rules have changed

Originally everyone had the full (Long)certificate but you could ask for the shorter one. The short one does not have parents details. So in the 60's when you had to take the short one in to school everyone knew either your parents were not married or no father on the birth certificate. I believe that changed in the 80's. They issue everyone with a short certificate at the registration of the birth and if you want a long one you have to pay extra for it.
