Funding confirmed for Western Access Road in Stafford

Stafford Borough Council propose to restrict traffic on Chell Road, Victoria Road and Station Road. And to improve the pedestrian environment, public realm and to enhance the bus interchange facilities on Chell Road, hopefully after the western Access road has been completed.

Just another little gem of a development to add to the congestion caused by Beaconside and all the other housing developments in progress.

Do they not put all of these works onto a timeline (gantt chart) and avoid too much overlap?

I don't really see how this is going to be an improvement. Surely it will just change the location of the so called congestion. What am I missing?

I agree, "SBC Transport evidence concludes that the Stafford Western Access Route between Castlefields, Doxey Road and Foregate Street is required to deliver housing and employment growth in Stafford"
Nothing to do with Traffic Flow, and when they restrict traffic from using Chell Rd?

If I remember correctly, the original 'consulation' supported the County Council's preferred option, the GREEN route.

The green appears to add unnecessary work to move the roundabout (and also flattening the trees which otherwise shield the roundabout from the marshes), all it gives is a roundabout exit for the car park. Can't they just move the car park entrance to better fit the existing roundabout? IIRC its badly in need of repair anyway?

Whichever route it takes it's going to cause months and months of traffic misery, for a net benefit of nothing. Then there'll be years and years of even worse traffic misery caused by the building of the new housing the road will facilitate and the extra traffic caused by said new housing.

All in all a giant waste of taxpayer's money just to make the present situation worse than it already is.

They have to do something due to all the houses being built or planned to be built.

If they could just avoid building so much housing the problem would be alleviated somewhat.

Typical Stafford. Spend a huge amount of money on something that will be of little benefit, while ignoring the traffic problems being created elsewhere.

Like the carpark, will the new road be suitable only for amphibious vehicles when it rains?
