I'm looking for someone to do some work in my back garden

There are a couple of small trees that need removing, the concrete base for a garage needs removing, an area that is currently partly lawn and borders needs leveling as it's on a slight incline away from the house and I'd like fresh turf laying across the whole area, and general weeding and maintenance for the borders around the patio

Does anyone have any personal recommendations for companies I could contact please?

I know an individual, not a company, who is more than capable. If you would like I will ask him.

Oh apologies, just spoken to him and he is full up for weeks with his core business. (Oil fired heating and ovens servicing and repairs) ooh slipped in a cheeky little plug there .

this question seems to come up quite often - i know i was asking for a similar thing a few years ago, when i was in a different house, but never really got a satisfactory response!

i notice we now have @Staffs Garden & Arb, @E.L.S Fencing, and possibly a few other "stafford gardening services" types on the forum.. maybe they can help?

Just found on a website - Spray shoots with glyphosate in summer. Tread down the shoots before spraying to bruise and crush them, which will allow the herbicide to enter the plant and be taken down to the roots

Or, I would use a mixture of vinegar, sat and washing up liquid. The washing up liquid strips and 'finish' the plant has on it. The vinegar gets into the plant and kills it. The salt gets into the ground and stops it growing again. If you want to grow plants on the same spot, leave the salt out.

You may need to apply several treatments over a period of time - they've been around since before the dinosaurs and are just waiting for us to go....

Be patient and methodical - the bruising is important.

If you pull a load of it and dry it, then roll it into a ball, it makes quite an effective metal polishing material - it was the premier method for brightening pewter in the old days. It has silica particles in it as a grazing deterrent, intended to wear down teeth, but it gives a really nice satin sheen to metal objects. Nature's Scotchbrite™.

i was just reading about glyphosate (aka "roundup weedkiller") this afternoon!

    http://www.senseaboutscience.org/pages/glyphosate-whats-the-lowdown.html

probable carcinogen, appaz.. then again, i doubt you were going to use it as deodorant, so no need to panic..

Rumours that it will soon be banned. Already gone from garden centres in France, Netherlands and Brazil.

Husband says this is rubbish....it may be removed for a short time while we all forget about what the papers say, but, the ingredients are listed as safe in this country even though they might not be in other country's....

Glyphosate belongs to Monsanto, not many people will stand up to them....

I just think I'm over it and on the mend and my brain decides to have a party without me and i just get the hangover.

I've had the heart tests done now and I'm going to physio and OT at Cannock Hosp - they are being very helpful. I'm trying to stand with one foot in front of the other with my eyes closed - not easy. The appointment has come through for the stroke clinic so that will hopefully be helpful and then I've just got to battle my weight problem.

Not easy when I have binge eating attacks - last one was brandy snaps, we got them from ASDA to share and I ate 5 of them when the kids were out, only one left in the packet I'm sure it a syndrome like OCD - Its call IEABFM - I eat anything bad for me

Ahhhhggggg - I can only half remember.....husbands elderly uncle recently told us that it was useful for treating black spot on roses...you boil it up with water & when cooled spray on the rose leaves...I can't remember the quantity though - sorry!

I believe you can also eat it & it has very good medicinal properties...
