Shove them in - they'll all catch up and you don't want them when everybody else has a glut, anyway. I had to have a look on Google Earth for the allotments, as, despite living on Tixall Road for two years, I didn't remember there being any round there. They look to be in a very strange arrangement.

There is actually 2 different allotment sites right next to each other. The google earth pics are old as the site im at looks completley overgrow which it isnt anymore.

I have just Lidled and they have a single battery water timer on the shelf - just six feet past the gallon cans of beer. The box was sealed and so I have been unable to verify its operability. It might even be that one that went back! They also have four sprinkler hoses and one porous hose, in the next aisle.

Lidl have some decent strawberry plants in, 6 for £3 and much bigger than the ones at Wilko.

Do you want any full-size tomatos? Bloke up the road from you has some spare. Can deliver. Would have pmed you but, apparently, your box is absolutely crammed full to bursting.

I have just Lidled and, apart from a few of the clockwork water timers, they currently have an electric butt-pump on offer, which might amuse one or two forumites, I suppose.

It's a bit like this. I couldn't find a picture of the Lidl one. You could time it electrically and yet still use your accumulated butt-water. There would be less chance of the floaty bits gumming things up than if you are merely relying on gravity.

EDIT: Oh yeah, greenhouse is going well. Got 11 tomatoes on the go, a fair few chillies (will be a few spare if anyone wants?) plus a few peppers, some strawberries, an aubergine and a corgette. Possibly some others too, losing track! Greenhouse smells good too cos of all the 'erbs in there

Wilkinson's have a couple of Hozelock brand battery-operated water timers at £22:99. They can program from once a week to four times a day, with a variable watering period. They're near the garden lights.

what in the name of almighty god is this all about? is there really a service in sheffield that provides bespoke cardigans for chickens?? lol

not a service, just nice people who are happy to contribute to a good cause.

the glorified hen cosies are pretty quick to knit and are a good way of using up left over wool.

i only learnt to knit recently, so when i saw the adverts before, i actually made mine out of fleece on a sewing machine instead, but they work just as well.

Just chillies this year, went in about 9 days ago and the first shoot appeared yesterday.

Starting today with a clear out of the garden the ambitious plan is to grow carrots, potatoes, cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, strawberries, blueberries and possible maize( not sure if i have the room lol).
Broccoli and cabbage were disaster last year, although I grew a healthy crop of bloody caterpillars.
We should have a big home grown produce party in the summer, like River Cottage but without a pube haired fool.

So far myself I've got in onions, garlic, shallots, carrots, parsnips, beetroot, peas, broad beans, potatoes, lettuce and leeks. Got lots more planned aswell.
