Gas Central Heating Service Agreements

We currently have our central heating etc covered by British Gas but I am going to change it soon as I am very disappointed with BG's customer service - I haven't had any problems at all to date except whne I tried to book my annual service with them and the first appointment was in 8 weeks time! I wanted the service done during the school hols but hey ho. Is there a local company in Staffs who offer the same sort of ervice contract as BG.

I use the Forum's own rikki and have found him to be excellent in terms of value, service, standard of work and speed of response. Not exactly 'a service contract', but the reality is better in all respects, I feel.

Reminds me actually, anyone who about these things - how often does my oil fired boiler want servicing and who does such a thing locally (eccleshall)?

Thanks guys. Any local gas safe registered business should give you a better service and value for money than one of the national companies.

You need someone who is a member of oftec for oil boilers/appliances, I don't really know a huge amount about it myself but I think servicing is supposed to be more critical than in gas appliances due to the nature of the oil being burnt. Can't recommend anyone I'm afraid.

I gave up on the BG service plan 6 years ago now. For the two reasons below:
One time they came out to do the annual service they failed to spot the wet patch on the carpet and the green around the valve on the bottom of the radiator. It simply needed tightening slightly which I did and I haven't had any problems with it since.
However I think the main thing was that when I moved house the policy transfers with you. We had a leak shortly after moving in and called them out. The engineer was nice and helpful and said unfortunately the leak was under the floor within the concrete. It was summer and we were not using the heating so he asked if he could return on Monday as it could be several hours work to dig up the floor. We agreed as that sounded reasonable enough. On the Monday instead of the engineer we got the area manager turn up who handed us a copy of the T&C's booklet and said they believed the leak was pre existing so they would not repair it. Having been a customer for 5 years I thought this was harsh. We got a local plumber to fix the leak in about 2 hours so it would have hardly broke the bank for BG to have fixed it - especially as they took the time to send the regional manager out!
Which reminds me that our boiler hasn't been serviced in at least 4 years now. Really should get that done when funds allow. Rikki feel free to PM me with a rough price to service a combi boiler please.
