Get the candles ready.

Seems there are areas of Stafford without power tonight. Weston Road and some roads around Corporation St and there are Baswich residents noticing some flickering.. :strange:

Which is why my Virgin Broadband is down then. Thanks MISS T for confirming this for me.

Whenever weston road area goes off we lose our broadband. So annoying though when we still have power. lol

Thanks to whoever's broadband I'm logged on to by the way :)

Wildwood flickered very mildly about half an hour ago. I have kept calm and am carrying on.

I might stay within range of a torch, mind - thanks for the heads-up.

Cambridge Street power went down around 9pm, along with Corporation Street, Smallman St, Tithe Barn and Weston Rd from what we could see, with Prospect Rd and Cotonfields staying on, returned around 11:15pm.

Gave me a chance to watch a DVD on work laptop with candle light.

Was funny to see people with petrol generators outside their house and random people walking about to experience the fun of the power cut! Also interesting the number of houses with emergency backup lighting and alarms going off.

I think it was our fault though - 2 strange things I noticed...

1) Our washing machine was mid-cycle, although the door was not locked. Usually the washing machine door locks until it has completely finished.
2) When everybody else's lights and street lamps had come back on around 23:15, ours didn't. For some reason our consumer unit had tripped and I had to reset it.

...I conclude that an electrical fault with our washing machine door locking mechanism had tripped the whole Littleworth substation.

LOL

I remember the power cuts in that bad winter about 20 yrs ago, bottled beer only in The Garth and beer coming up from the cellar in a jug at The Chet at Brocton being better than the Garth's when they did have power for the pumps.
Proper toast and scrabble by the light of an open fire at home, not all bad.

20 years ago, I remember that, I stuck the trany van out side my front window and used it to power a portable tv and a light for the front room, the kids loved it, but I was freezing
I was about to pipe some of the hot air from the trany's heater into the house when the power came back on.

Stoke had an outage yesterday morning but no one seemed to notice much..
No the lights just never came back on from the cuts during the miner's strike but as you say no-one's noticed.
