Free! Good home required for cat (s)

Hi

I know it's a long shot but wonder if any forumites might be able to home or know of anyone who could offer a loving home to 2 cats, either together or individually. Basically they belong to an elderly relative of mine who now has severe dementia and is no longer able to look after them properly.

The first one is a neutered ginger tom. Approx 5 years old, very sweet but initially shy of strangers. This lad had an eye problem as a young kitten so now only has one eye, the other one was surgically removed when he was 8 weeks old. It causes him no trouble and he is in very good general health. Suspect his vaccinations will need re-doing.

The second cat is a black neutered female, approx 2 years old. Again in good general health, but very very shy of strangers, bolts from the room. Would probably only be suited to a similar situation to what she is in, older person living in a quiet house, or maybe as a farm or small holding cat where human contact is minimal but she will get fed.

If anyone can help then please get in touch, I can try and get some pics if required. Loving homes a priority as these were this ladies babies and I don't want anything but the best for them.

Cheers

When do you need to rehome them?

I may be able to help but we're doing renovations at the moment and will be for the next month or so and it's not going to be ideal for new cats to settle in.

We live rurally surrounded by open fields, it's not the quiet home your after as we have two small kids and a dog, but we can offer a loving home where hopefully given time the timid cat can be tamed.

Are you able to find out about the vaccinations, if you know which vet they're registered with they should be able to tell you.

Also are the cats house trained and does your relative have problems with the cats scratching things they shouldn't? Are they used to being outdoors and are they used to traffic? The lane we live on has very little traffic but occasionally you get an idiot doing speeds more suited to a motorway.

Hi

Thanks for the response, your home sounds perfect!

To answer your questions, they are safe and well-fed with the old lady so there isn't an imminent time pressure, we could wait until it was convenient for you with your renovations etc.

I will try and find the vaccination cards when I next visit, or speak to the vet as you suggest.

As far as I am aware they were house trained, and will use a litter tray, but they are allowed outside via the catflap so used to the outdoor life! Being honest, one of the reasons we need to rehome is that the old lady keeps locking them in accidentally and there have been some accidents in the house, but we are convinced this is a response to not being able to get out when required rather than not being house-trained as it is only a recent issue. Until the old lady's Dementia got very bad the cats were spotless in the house.

I'm not sure about the scratching, there doesn't seem evidence of excessive scratching around the place, I'll have a look when I visit this weekend.

I'm sure the ginger lad would become a nice family pet, I've certainly had him on my knee for a cuddle. The black one is considerably more shy, but with time and patience who knows.

They should be fine with traffic, as I said, they are allowed out so have seen cars and have obviously navigated there perils thus far!

I'll try and take some pictures when I visit to give you an idea of what they look like.

Appreciate you response, and any other questions please let me know :)

Hi

I visited today but it wasn't very successful. The old lady didn't know where the cats were, and couldn't help with what time she feeds them or anything, so I could see them when they came in - it's a terrible disease Dementia :(. We did find some vaccination cards though, the ginger boy is microchipped and last vaccinated in June 2012, so he'll need re-doing. If I can find him and you are definitely interested we can arrange for this to be done. I'll try and find him again next time I visit.

I couldn't find any cards for the black cat, so will need to speak with the vet for more info; suspect the findings will be similar, chipped but jabs expired.

We did find the black cat though and managed to get a sort of pic. She was very keen to bolt out of the room, but I found her under the bed for the pic, and I was able to tickle her chin and stroke her head ! She is timid though and her first response was to try and escape from us. She looked in good condition, and has a lovely soft coat. not sure if she has a fluffy tail or had fluffed it up in fear!!!!!!

Like I've already said, these cats were really well loved and looked after which is shown by the fact they are both jabbed, chipped and neutered, and it's very sad for the old lady, but things are difficult enough now just looking after her, so we feel the cats deserve a loving home with someone else if we can find a suitable one.

Sounds like a typical Small British Black. Prepared to tolerate you sharing their home but do not want fussing.

Really? That explains my 2 black cats then.
Infact Kyoto49's picture of the black cat has the same cross look that mine walks round with! Although mine is also slightly cross eyed a lot of the time....

Wish i could of given them a home Kyoto49...

I have 3 black cats, pointed hat and broomstick! Our newest looks like the black one in Kyoto49s' photo, the youngest lad is the only 1 that can cuddle her, I have the scars to prove otherwise. The other 2 are totally different again.1 is fluffy like a long feather duster, bit of a slapper when it comes to cuddles, and his motor is always on fully charged. The eldest is more sleeker, bit more quieter, till he spots a bird in a garden 3 streets away.
No, no more, look away!!!!!

In a strange turn of events it seems we've just gained a kitten.

We're still undecided about what to do with it though but I think we'll end up keeping him/her and may be unable to adopt the two you're trying to rehome Kyoto.

I don't want to derail this thread but the poor little mite has had a really poor start to life - I'll post the details in a separate thread.

No problem, ta for the heads up.

Anyone else interested, we really need to find a home for these guys, doesn't need to be together, happy to home them seperately.

@Glam, I know you'd love the little black one :D

No. I'm pushing it offering Bobs other kitten a home. I think my 3 cats may well walk out on me!

I've just been out and had a good look and there is still no sign of it. I'm hoping someone has done the same as me and taken it in.

Good luck finding a home Kyoto, I'm sorry hubby has put his foot down and said no more pets (at least until we get settled) but I'll ask around for you.
