Half Barrel planters?

Does anyone know a garden centre...or anywhere that sells those barrels cut in half that you use to put plants in?

I have seen them somewhere but I cant remember which garden centre I was in and rather than go trailing round I thought that you might be able to point me in the right direction.

Try Peter Coates at Oak Barrel Creations a very talented chap and one of the few remaining master coopers left in the UK.

http://oakbarrelcreations.co.uk/

He will make you pretty much anything you want from an oak barrel bar through to a huge hot tub. Prices are very reasonable. His website isn't great and you can get pictures if you search for oak barrel creations on Facebook.

He is based in north wales so that far from Stafford.

Maybe a few phone calls - it should be possible to narrow down the possibilities?

No doubt you will have already thought of this, but you might need to make them not easily removable...

We have learned from experience that anything placed in the village has to be either cemented in or fixed in very firmly.

Yes phone calls will be made...I thought that someone may know and save me some time.....

You might call on Les Oakes Reclamation in Cheadle. I had some ex-whiskey half barrels from them ten years ago for £12.50 per. But it's not as wild and woolly as it used to be, after the demise of the man, and prices are as knowing as they are everywhere these days. Still worth a visit though. Still a bit mad. Have a nice pub lunch at The George in Alston.

I would still try Peter Coates simply because he is a master cooper. The cost of shipping a pallet is not necessarily as much as you think. The stuff I have seen I garden centres have generally been of poor quality. He also does various sales at English Heritage type properties. If you ask him you may well find that he will be coming to the area so you might have that far to travel.

You get what you pay for, if you buy cheap you buy twice. You also loose the skill and then bemoan the loss.

I would echo the above but it would depend on price. I appreciate skill, but I also have the misfortune to work in the public sector (#gisajob) so know when funds are low you have to start looking to the garden centres etc.

Thats it in a nutshell really.

We are only a small village group just trying to pretty up the village a bit.

But I am no longer on the committee so looking for barrells is no longer my problem.

Thanks everyone for taking the time to reply.
