Has Anyone Noticed Lots Of New Users Don't Use The Forum?

Would be a good idea to have suggestions or ideas to make the forum more attractive to new users who register and then bugger off without using it. The user list is huge;

you can't really call them 'users' if they don't use it. tis a free world though and if they don't want to post then it's their choice. it would be good to see them more involved however...

Maybe people are just reading the posts. Maybe they're forming a secret alliance against all the people who DO post in a bid to take us out, one by one (not literally take us out, I mean take us out in the bad way) and then keep the forum for themselves. I say we track them down and lock them up, before they ruin Christmas for everyone. Just think of the havoc that will be caused, the plans that will fall apart, the pies that will remain uneaten. Something must be done soon(ish), their side is gathering strength.

I think part of the problem is accessing t'interweb. Me and most of the Forumites that I know can get on the forum during work hours, but I reckon a lot of the peeps who have signed up but not posted can't, thus making them feel slightly disjointed from the chat that goes on in the daytime. It's a real shame, and I agree that we should get our thinking caps on.

Well i guess now would be a good time for this Newbie to say Hi! The reason i have not yet used the forum is because i have no exciting picture attached to my name and am finding it all a bit too technical to 'upload' one and therefore feel slightly inferior to all you computer whizz kids. Forgive my uselessness!!

welcome working girl...!

I for one, as the 'Poet Laureate' of this fair forum, appointed by myself, would like to request of the Governator/Admin chap, if we could have an official 'Poets Corner', with all the work thus far posted in the poetry thread being reposted under an official banner thingy (like Stafford Chat, Out & About etc)...

I think it would be great and add to the longevity of the Forum in general...
Please Admin...:)

I'm sure Dave Gorman will be back to the Ford for a Christmas holiday, if you see him about ( lynton Tavern) get him posting. The one who does and gets a personal mention will win a Christmas treat.

Such is the nature of Internet forums, I'm afraid. You will always find there are users who sign up, then don't post for whatever reason. These users are known as lurkers, and are usually simply new users who want to sit in the background and become acclimatised to The Forum before taking the plunge and contributing. :)

Hi WorkingGirl, welcome to The Forum :D

The little picture you're taking about is called an avatar, and quite a few people on here haven't got round to sorting one out, it's nothing to be ashamed of!

You can upload your own by clicking on the Profile link in the navigation bar (at the top, underneath the main Stafford Forum banner). Once there, just choose the Personality link from the Profile Menu that appears, then click the Change Avatar link. Your picture must be no bigger than 120 x 120 pixels, which should be plenty.

If you, or anyone, wants help with anything at all, just click here to send me a Private Message :)

I'm not sure if interest in poetry runs deep enough to warrant its own dedicated sub-forum. The poetic ramblings of you and others are definitely most welcome, but I think it is probably best to keep then within the realms of existing sub-forums for the time being.

Well, let's hope it's the real Dave Gorman this time, and not some jobsworth imposter. ;)

Toodle pip!

Oh well, as much as i am disappointed that 'Poets Corner' (in honour of of all things bumcheeky) will not (as yet!!!) get its own unique space; because Mr Admin, seems like a pleasant sort of chap, i shall not seek revenge of a brutal and bloody nature, but simply console myself with a long toot on my crack pipe.

You knows it
Maybe our good Governator should send a private message to our new users encouraging them with the benefits of posting and not just reading?

Thanks for the welcome.
I'll do my bit to promote the forum by force feeding it to all and sundry.
I'll put a notice up at work to try and gather some impetus.

D'oh! Went to give a skill point to FooFighter for the stirling work, and ended up giving one to Dirty Bobbles. Ah well, Jimbob giveth and Jimbob taketh away. It'll all even out in the end.
