Help on selfie stick

The other day we were trying to take a selfie but we couldn’t get what we wanted in the picture and husband said we needed a selfie stick.
Thought I’d buy one as a stocking filler, went on e bay and oh my goodness, I’m so confused.

I thought it was basically something to just make your arms longer.
So what is monopod, Bluetooth, wireless, no battery, shutter remote please?

Also are they basically the same and do they all fit all phones or do I have to buy a specific one for his model of phone?
