So where we all planning to go? You do all start planning during christmas no? :)

We're looking at going on a little rail trip I'm concocting around Poland, Belarus and Ukraine. Has anyone been to Belarus or Ukraine to holiday? I'm interested in anyone's experiences though I realise it's a long shot!

Hopefully thinking of our holidays will take our minds off the January grey days!!

Don't know yet. I have a big anniversary in December so may well go away then instead of in the summer, maybe somewhere wintery or Christmassy.

If you want christmassy possibly stay away from Europe. We were in Italy until Christmas Eve and although it was slightly festive they certainly do the festivities in a much more understated way. We felt quite unfestive despite the snow!

I like to always have at least 1, and ideally 2 holidays booked. This year we are going to The Lakes in February, Costa Rica in April and Scilly in July. As my holiday year is April to March there may be another one.

We have family living and working in Jamaica for the next year or so I'm hoping to persuade hubby to take a few weeks of and take them up on their invite, he is reluctant to fly, neither of us feel particularly comfortable boarding a plane, combined with a very unsettling flight the last time we travelled, recent aviation events and the current active extremist groups it's far more likely we'll end up in Dorset cottage with a hot tub.

A few years ago a friend offered my husband use of his apartment in Cape Verdi, to this day I'm still waiting to be whisked away.

ooooh Costa Rica sounds fab :) We also do some UK breaks and then a biggie overseas. We have our annual camping trip to Pembrokeshire already booked as the site only has 5 pitches and lots of repeat bookers!! I love it there and really enjoy taking the dog.

My advice would be to take the chance. Being realistic the chances of you coming to any harm onboard a plane are far less than on your daily car journeys. I do understand about not loving flying though. I have really gone off long haul economy flights recently, just so cramped I get quite stressed with it all, and this from someone who adored flying around the world in my younger day. Dorset also sounds lovely though :)

I know, safest mode of transport and all that, I think my biggest issue is that I have no understanding whatsoever about the mechanics of 1000's of tons of metal staying in the air for hours on end. If hubby agreed I'd be booking the flights before he could say he'd changed is mind though in all honesty I'm happy enough to pretend it's all his fault we haven't be abroad for 7 years.

Aircraft now are bizarrely safe. If the same processes were followed in other aspects of life, things would be much better.

I used to be a bad flyer, after some events in the '60s and '70s, but I have virtually no concerns now - just the tedium of the airport process.

Book it, then tell him - if he won't go with you, somebody else will....

It's 'only' hundreds of tons, even with an A380.

Hopefully going to be going to the same hotel in Torremolinos that we stayed in last year, we enjoyed it so much.

Also get to choose a few days to either Germany or Croatia in the next few months, courtesy of Hubby's works for him working there 25 years. :)

Havng a little understanding often makes things worse. Ignorance is bliss I say!! I agree with @Gramaisc book it and then tell him. Plus, it's only about 10 hours, not really really Australia long! And think of the lovely beaches......haha

We'll be off to Mablethorpe once again. We've just got into the routine now of booking it within a few weeks of of the last visit.

It might not be the Costa-Del-Sol, Maldives, Benidorm or whatever. But to us it's the Costa-Del-Britain and we love it :D

However long it is, you do only have to sit there in relative comfort - gone are the days of not being able to hear properly for days after the landing, etc.

I've heard people complain about flights that are shorter than a lot of films are now.

Got a week just before Easter up in Bridlington in my van.
In the UK hoping to get to Formby and possibly Northumberland.
Outside of that a happy return to Vegas in September. Subject to change but come the end of February I hope the flights will be booked.

I expect we'll be off to Greece again, probably Ithaka as it's one of the island we've never been to. Or we might book a two-week package on the mainland (Pelion peninsula maybe) and then head off somewhere else for four or five nights.

Every other year Greece for us. This is an off year. Not to say if finances allow we may have a week.

Enjoying a drop of red.
Many weekends will be taking the caravan to motor racing meetings around the country. We're also having a couple of weeks in the Italian lakes and a few weeks in France.

Don't normally spend so much time away but we've decided it'll be too late to wish we had when we pop off our perches.

Italy! For my honeymoon!

My first time abroad in 10 years (if you don't count my depressing trip to Auschwitz!)

So excited!

3 nights in Venice followed by 2 weeks in northern Italy - hiring a car and off we go!

I don't actually know they full plans as the OH has booked it all - so some surprises in store!

Planning at least 2 camping /camper van trips to shell island this year and we may drift down the welsh coast a bit, though I would like to go back to Bude in Cornwall for a week too, last time we were there the kids were little.

Ah yes. Apparently I have to drive my left hand drive van to Shell Island. That will test the marriage.
