Holidays 2017

Ah yes. Apparently I have to drive my left hand drive van to Shell Island. That will test the marriage.
Why?

LHD over here is only really a problem when you overtake. I'm guessing, in a camper, you probably won't be doing too much of that!

A little bit of careful positioning at junctions and you really shouldn't be at any more of a disadvantage than RHD*.

* Disclaimer: I've only driven LHD cars over here, not vans, so could be talking utter bollocks!

Left-hand bends on twisty roads can be an issue, but they're possibly slightly easier when sat higher up.

A friend of mine drove his Herald off the causeway to the island - his ashes are scattered there now - not as a direct result...

Mainly down to the narrow twistiness and having to keep over close to a dry stone wall, whilst the navigator stresses that I need to get further over.

The navigator should be sitting in the back - in the dark - to protect their night-vision for star-fixes.

Italy! For my honeymoon!

My first time abroad in 10 years (if you don't count my depressing trip to Auschwitz!)

So excited!

3 nights in Venice followed by 2 weeks in northern Italy - hiring a car and off we go!

I don't actually know they full plans as the OH has booked it all - so some surprises in store!

Just got back from skiing in the Piedmont region, beautiful, Aosta we loved. Worth going to Turin as well, I wasn't expecting much, but was bowled over by the place. Beautiful architecture, great museums, cheap food, just brilliant all round really!!. Have fun

Just booked our fortnights summer holiday to Torremolinos . Been trying to get hubby to stop being his usual self and dragging his feet when it comes to booking anything....checking prices again this afternoon, there was now only one room of the type we wanted left in the fantastic hotel we stayed in last year. A quick phone call to his works soon got him agreeing for me to go ahead and book it while I had the screen up :bananafunk::)

Seriously, I've never met anyone who's been to Torremolinos, I actually thought it was a place from some TV comedy about Brits in the sun or something lol. What's it like?

No sweeping generalisation or stereo-typing there then. Just good old fashioned snobbery held aloft for all to see.

The older ones amongst us will remember it from the Monty Python sketch

"..... and you sit next to a party from Rhyl who keep singing 'Torremolinos, Torremolinos' and complaining about the food - 'It's so greasy here, isn't it?' - and ...."

So where we all planning to go? You do all start planning during christmas no? :)

We're looking at going on a little rail trip I'm concocting around Poland, Belarus and Ukraine. Has anyone been to Belarus or Ukraine to holiday? I'm interested in anyone's experiences though I realise it's a long shot!

Hopefully thinking of our holidays will take our minds off the January grey days!!

Rostov on Don has just been listed as the most dangerous city in Europe!

Two week cruise in the Caribbean in Feb (five weeks today to be precise!) then as much time away in our caravan for the rest of the year.

A trip to Amsterdam in the spring, and a cruise over to the Nurburgring in the summer, stopping off at spa francorchamps and Bruges on the way is my plan.

I visited Nurburgring in 2002 when we went over for the Belgian GP (at Spa-Francorchamps). There was thick fog at the former, and aside, from the motor museum, we could hardly see a thing.

We were also at the Belgian GP in 2000, sat at Kemmel where we had a great view of Hakkinen overtaking Schumacher.
