Holidays 2021

I have a harbourside 2 bed apartment booked for a week in Weymouth. Third year on the trot to the town so it must have its charm. Not in the motorhome this year as we wanted to be able to get to the beach without the car.
I have a couple of long weekends booked, time that is, and will book a campsite for those soon.
We like Weymouth , been a few times and on our list to return to. Been on the look-out for a good self catering house / apartment with good parking on-site but so far all the ones I've really fancied have been snapped up for the dates hubby has booked off.

We took a gamble early this year and got it at a good price. It was when owners were thinking it may be a write off so prices were low.

Well apparently 75% of the UK population think that the current limitations on travel should be extended until next year.

I’m not afraid to say that I’m of the 25% that is desperate to get on a plane and just go.

Sitting at a beach restaurant with a glass of chilled wine, watching the freshly caught fish being cooked, sitting among the olive groves, chatting to locals, dancing under the stars.

We can’t go to our place that we own in Spain and our holiday to Skiathos has been cancelled for the 2nd time by Jet 2.

Oh dear, First World Problems.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

75% of those asked, and even then it depends how you ask. I fully support banning those not vaccinated, but it's a bit unfair on the young uns. I don't want unvaccinated people coming here so only fair we apply the same logic to us going there.

I just don’t see why being vaccinated should make a difference. You can still catch it &, more crucially, spread it even when vaccinated.
I would love to visit the Greek island we’ve visited 2 or 3 times each year for the past 20 years or so & would love to see the lovely friends we’ve made there who are struggling to keep their business afloat. I didn’t book anything last year & I won’t be booking this year either. I’d dread being stuck on a plane, mixing in departures & even worse in arrivals rubbing shoulders with other travellers from god knows where. Holidays won’t be the same anyway due to the restrictions in place in most destinations, last year amongst other things Greece had a 10pm curfew in all bars & restaurants etc. That in itself would be enough to take a lot of enjoyment from our holiday.
Hopefully next year will be a lot better & many other countries will have the same success we’ve had in bringing down infections. The very last thing we need after all the sacrifices of the last year is to import another variant& have to start all over again.

There’s already a variant in this country, the Indian variant.
And people are pouring into this country from other places but we can’t go anywhere.
Most of the Greek Islands have been vaccinated so I thought we’d be allowed to visit there at least.

Being vaccinated was supposed to give us freedom, what’s the point of being vaccinated otherwise?

Nobody in Britain would have had coronavirus if there had been no international travel.
Other than of goods very little foreign travel is essential.

Even though we probably couldn't get travel insurance for the wife the list of countries on the green list isn't exactly inspirational...

Australia's current status is

My sister lived in Brunei for 4 years so I know exactly how crap out it is there.

And the Falklands Islands?!?!

It's a way to look like we're allowing travel without actually allowing it. Then they can blame the other countries for not letting us in. Nationalism at its finest.

Vaccination will only be effective when we’ve got “herd immunity”. Unfortunately that means globally not just U.K.
The traffic light system treats Greece as a whole, it was generally expected that the islands would be treated separately to the mainland.

Australia & New Zealand got it right from the start & don't want to allow any possibility of re-introduction. One of the problems is that even although you have been vaccinated you can still catch covid and then pass it on to others, vaccination doesn't necessarily provide immunity but reduces the severity of symptoms. So countries are worried about our variants being imported, and people in this country are worried about travellers bringing new variants here from abroad. Many countries have inadequate vaccination level, notably India, much of Africa, large chunks of South America and bits of Asia. In some of these areas infection rate is rising so I suspect there is very little chance of unrestricted travel being allowed any time soon.

This is very true, a huge amount of the good done by the UK going into the first lockdown was undone by allowing anyone in who fancied it without testing or even tracing in most cases. You'd have to be a complete idiot to think it'd work, hence our leadership choosing that approach.

Ah but Boris has done such a great job of handling the pandemic. Hence the Tory success in Hartlepool & the local elections.
( Yeah I know that having such a crap set of opposition parties had a bit to do with it)

Unfortunately yes, people think he has. As someone that deals with logic as my job I find the state of our country quite distressing lately.
