Son no1 says he wants an X-Box for birthday. Apparently he wants to play X-Box Live, (where he plays against other oiks across t'internet, apparently?)

I am completely techno' non savvy, so can anyone answer a few questions as simply as poss' please. (Aim your answers at idiot level, and you won't be far wrong)

Is the X-Box Live concept any good? Worth it?
Can he use any X-Box to access.
I am on NTL Broadband will this be enough to make games playable?
What gubbins do I need to connect to t'internet for him to play?

Any contributions gratefully recieved. If non of this makes any sense, I am not surprised!

bit of a weird question.. it's like asking "Is the McDonald's concept any good? Worth it?".. if you like that sort of thing, then it most certainly is! i personally can't be bothered with online play, but millions around the world would disagree with me.. it's a massive phenomenon, and if your lad wants in then you'd best get your wallet out! lol

yes.. but make sure you get an xbox 360, not an original xbox.. when people talk about "xbox" these days, they inevitably mean xbox 360.. the poor lad will be mortified if he wakes up on his birthday, expecting to find an xbox 360, and instead he gets a massive black brick that will only play 5 year old games!

i remember monquey told his parents he wanted a gameboy for xmas one year, assuming they would get him the new "gameboy pocket".. when he awoke xmas morn to find an original, housebrick-sized gameboy at the foot of his bed, he put on a brave face.. but inside he was crying 8-bit monochromatic tears

I am on NTL Broadband will this be enough to make games playable?

more than.. ntl is currently the fastest ISP bar none.. even their basic "M" package is adequate, but if you're on "L" or above you're laughing..

What gubbins do I need to connect to t'internet for him to play?

not sure about this one, i'm afraid.. as i say, i've never been interested in it personally, so i'm not sure if it all Just Worksâ„¢ out of the box, or if you need extra bits and bobs.. you will need an xbox live subscription, but i'm pretty sure you get 30 days free or something when you buy a new xbox anyway..

My 18 year old loves xbox live and he is able to chat to his friends FREE of charge on the head set! Saves the phone bill.
