I resell ADSL to my customers, and due to some mildly interesting, yet totally tedious training courses, they gave me the super secret telephone number, so now I get direct access to second line support :)

Therefore... I use my own interweb :)

For a backup line, I do use Virgin/NTL/Cable/Whatever which seems to behave itself quite nicely....

<plug class="shameless">But hey, anyone want broadband with a Stafford-based tech support? Call Dan Call Dan Call Dan!!!! </plug>

JUST SEEN.... VM are doing a free 30 day trial for 2meg customers to upgrade to 10meg on their 12 days of christmas deal....

Loads of other offers on it too.

www.virginmedia.com/12days
This offer is now live. Called them up, and my line was upgraded within 5 minutes. For once, Virgin have pleased me. For an extra 7 quid a month, I may just keep it.

Well my opinion of Virgin Media has just dropped to the level at which BT sits...

Apparently they are NOT going to be install me a nice spangley 20MB connection in my house due to the fact I live in a shared house. Despite the fact that we rent the rooms individually and have lockable doors etc. because one of my housemates has a connection with them already they won't allow another account there.

I cannot even begin to explain how bad for business this is. First of all they will have two incomes from essentially one line. Secondly I will have to pay the £30 installation charge, which as the house is already plumbed in means running a cable from the splitter into my room. Engineer who does this day in day out.... 10 minutes. Thats a good profit for Virgin. Thirdly now they will lose out on my business permenantly for being so crap at business unless they agree to install the connection anyway and waiver the first 3 months of bills (I have left the ball in their court). Christ even BT know when they're onto a good thing.

Couldn't you just apply as 31a Accacia Avenue instead of 31 to get around their rubbish system.

When the engineer gets there and realises, i'm sure he won't give a shiz

Yeah I did think of this and rang them back, but its all done on "what the system says" and my house is a single occupancy house as far as they're concerned, the system physically won't allow a manual input (allegedly).

I have made a formal complaint, stating how ridiculous a policy this is and none of the three reps I spoke with had a decent answer as to why it was in force. I can't think of one either. Can you?

I agree the engineer won't give a monkey's about it which is really frustrating. Whats really annoyed me is I had to undergo a credit check, which fair enough I was accepted for the service, but I'm sure that still doesn't look great on my credit report and I have nothing to show for it. :fap: ers

Did the same earlier today. Thanks for the tip guys. Now I'm going to abuse Utorrent in ways obscene to post on this forum.

Just upgrading myself too.

Can someone revive this thread on 2nd Jan so that I can make sure I remember to cancel it again?

Cheers

Jesus H Christ, why did I even bother!!!!

Currently paying £10 a month for my 2meg BB

Ring up and say I want the "free upgrade to 10meg BB for one month"

Indian girl puts me on hold for about 15 minutes and comes back and says "thats fine, i've put you onto the £17 a month 10meg offer"

I say "hang on a second, if i'm currently paying £10 a month and its a free upgrade, that doesn't equal £17"

:blah: :blah: :fap:

Still on hold now but she's doing my head in babbling shiz about why I can't have it now....

Good old Virgin

This is just like ntl: was back in t'day. The communications company who cannot communicate.

As i have said earlier in this thread, I have used them for 18 months with absolutely no problems, the connection was fast, faster than any of your ADSL sufferers even dream about and stable, but the customer service isn't even shite, its just non-existant!

It has really annoyed me the whay I've been treated and there is no way I'm gettin a BT phone line just so they can charge more again for a BB connection. What am I to do? Virgin monopolise the cable market, and EVERY OTHER OPTION is a waste of time and money.

How the hell is Brandson so filthy rich? Surely he hasn't always conducted business like this? Oh you'd like a family holiday you say? Sorry one plane seat per household.

Grrrrrrrrrrrr....................

@gk141054 - I decided during my first 2 months of the £10 sign up deal to upgrade to superspeeds thinking i'd still get the introductory price, but no. Reverted a couple of months on back to 2 meg and been billed 17 / 18 quid ever since. So i only got 2 months of introductory offer!! (so i know how you feel)

@shoes... cant you go halvers with the other guy and share a wireless connection?? If virgin say its only classed as a single address, you couldn't be done for breaking any laws. Maybe he'd appreciate upgrading his speed at your expense or whatever??? Just a thought

Just ring them back WMR and tell them £17 / £18 is too much for 2 meg and they should put you back to £10 quite easily.

Yeah I'm gonna have a word and see if he fancies it. Even if he's on 2MB thats £17/month and 20MB is £36/month so for an extra £1 he gets 10x speeds... will have to see what he says!
