There was one planned for Rodbaston, it would only have been visible from a few houses in Penkridge, including ours. We totally pissed off our district councillors by supporting it. They were opposed to it but wouldn't have been able to see it from where they lived. Planning permission was granted but unfortunately nothing has happened so far.

I've thought about looking into one just powerful enough to run the lighting in my hen house. But then I expect a solar panel would be likely to be cheaper.

Weird that, my oldies picked one up at the weekend to run the fridge on their boat....how strange!

Hugh and his colleagues set a few records in August:

http://www.renewableuk.com/en/news/...ts-nuclear-and-coal-in-record-breaking-august

22% of the UK's electricity was generated by wind farms, one sunny day in August.

Now, that may say more for the UK's summer weather than the efficiency of wind power generation, but I think it is pretty impressive. Enough to stop the 'not in my back yard' 'countryfiles' I doubt it.
Currently about 14% - http://www.ukenergywatch.org/Electricity/Realtime - even on this not very windy evening.

Nuclear power in private hands seems more than a bit barmy to me - even if the 'private' hands are those of a foreign government's nationalised energy provider, funded by a 'communist' state.

I like wind turbines, I remember when they started doing the offshore wind-farm just off rhyl coast, loved watching it. there was another big windfarm in Wales as well where you could stand right next to them, was loads of them. one of my favourite memories :buddy:
