Indian/ethnic fabric

Does anyone know where I can get indian style fabrics (i.e. sari material) without going all the way to a big city? I've looked on the internet but it's hard to judge the quality with a picture.

My mum came over from Spain a few months ago and was looking for some sari-type material too. She looked EVERYWHERE in Stafford (including the market) and in the end she had to go to Brum.

Oh - forgot - The Craft Cabin on Weston Road don't normally stock stuff like that but are sometimes persuaded to get stock in. Worth a word if you haven't tried already?

oh noir, im sorry, the only places i can think of are wolves and stoke.....but here in sheffield we've got loads of shops where you could buy it.

the problem with a lot of asian fabric shops is that they only sell the fabric in set lengths for shalwar kameez making...my mum found that out the hard way when trying to buy half a metre for some trimming in wolves.

if youve got an idea of what youre after, maybe i could have a look up here for you and send you some samples?

any excuse for shopping! ;)

Everyone is so bloody helpful on here! Thank you very much for the suggestions.
Cookie monster, thank you very much for that offer, I think I will have a look around Stoke and Bham when I get the chance (I can pretend I'm Christmas shopping!)

If I am successful in finding some good material I will put some pictures on here of what I make out of it and hopefully you nice people can tell me if it was all worth it!

A friend of mine from India, gets tonnes of stuff sent over/bought over with relatives to Stafford, just had some henna inks myself, I could ask her but it would be pot luck on what you got.
Birmingham markets are your next best option.

I used to work at Oxfam and they ofen gor saris donated. They used to keep them all in a box until they had loads then do a special week of them in the shop. If you ask very nicely they might let you have a look through.

It might also be worth coming along on Saturday to the One World Jamboree (http://www.staffordbc.gov.uk/live/welcome.asp?id=6179) and asking some of the people who will be there for advice.
