Market Vaults is probably your best bet - it's just round the back of the Gatehouse, in the corner of the Market Square.

Unless anybody else can suggest anything.....

Tells you all you need to know, really - abandon hope etc...

Best bet would be the Grapes - don't let the uptown-ranking-funkiness of the website deceive you - it is at least as bad as it looks, possibly more so.

Having said that, if you must go anywhere then go there - it is very much the least worst of your options.

I can recommend the Sugarmill Played there a couple of times nice venue good sound, not a bad crowd either

Sugarmill or the underground in stoke will probably be better for you. Stafford doesn't have much of a night-life.

Well its changed somewhat but back in the past there used to be an indie chart, music released on independant labels. Invariably, but not exclusively, it was white boys with guitars playing non traditional rock music, think the smiths, the fall etc. Occasionally interlopers would get in, PWL and white boys with synths that were on the mute label. As time wore on, the indie acts got bigger and bigger, such as oasis and the term indie became like hoover and sellotape, a reference for a particular type of music, white boys with guitars playing non traditional guitar rock (its pretty musch traditional these days), Hope this helps Hetairoi.

Thanks I understood some of that!

Depends what night your coming down on...

Market Volts: Always tend to have a good band on weekends: http://www.themarketvaults.com/#!music/c1jo3

The Grapes: I'd avoid on on Saturday night as they just play the same disco junk as everywhere else - but check their website: http://www.grapesstafford.org.uk/Whats_On.html

Casa: Used to have a 'Rock Night' (I use the term loosely) on Tuesdays upstairs - however website now says 'Band Night' Thursdays - http://www.casastafford.co.uk/week

Couture: Have an over 25's (but anyone can get in) section that tend to just play cheesy 70's disco music! The hideous website tells me this is Saturday nights only - http://www.coutureleisure.com/whatson/saturdays/

Apart from that it's just word of mouth if there are any of the smaller pubs hosting bands on whatever night it is your coming down!

Have fun!
