Installing Windows Live Messenger - arrrgggghhhhhh! Help!

Right gang, need some advice from anyone wot knows how Microsoft's minds work (ha!)...

I'm trying to install MSN's messenger client (Windows Live Messenger?) for my mum, so she can chat over her 56k dialup link. At the moment I'm having immense problems getting it to download and install, due to Micro$oft's HALFWITTED USE OF STUB PROGRAMS!!!!! (download a small file, run it and it *allegedly* tries to install the program proper off the web for you.) What *really* happens is that the Messenger download gets to 99% and freezes, and the stub doesn't even begin to download the "Sign-In Assistant" (whatever the hell that does.)

So... has *anybody* got a link for somewhere I can download a Windows Live Messenger installation executable that I can run without being connected to the net? Otherwise, if Windows Update doesn't work, when I leave here in a few days she'll be using Pidgin :)

I need a very strong drink, but my antibiotics mean I can't have one. :(

Microsoft. Whose computer do you want to break today?...

** STOP PRESS!!!! ** I'VE FOUND IT!!!! The file seems to be called "install_messenger-nous.exe" and was - erm - sitting in the Installers directory of my 4GB flashdrive. <embarrassed> That's the trouble with these big drives; I forget what's on them... :)
Anyway, a google search for that filename brings up a number of download locations, in case anyone else has the same problem...

Bye-bye Sunday afternoon. I'm going to go and watch the darts.

** EDIT ** Corrected the subject line :)
** EDIT ** Added the StopPress.
