Is anyone experiencing internet connecting problems around the Rowley Park area, I have Fibre Optic and in the last month the speed has drooped from 28 Mb, to 5 now 2 Mb, sometimes it doesn't even connect.

I'm talktalk (so BT) on fibre and it seems fine, my OH is on talktalk (normal) and its been sketchy this evening. Both along the stone road pretty much but about 10 min walk apart.

Had virgin since they were ntl, don't think I ever had a major problem. Speeds were consistent, there was the odd outage but only briefly (not like you get on ADSL!). I'm now on fibre and its rock solid too, speeds fluctuate a bit more but I'm on 15Mb more than I had with Virgin anyway for the same price so no net loss.

Virgin broadband all the way. Only ever experienced one major outage in last 10 years which took them a couple of days to sort - apparently a problem with gain levels in the splitter at the bottom of our street. Other than that though we've had very VERY few problems compared to those on ADSL connections.
If yours is talktalk fibre, then switching to BT fibre isn't likely to change anything as the problem will still exist unless rectified. Virgin's fibre optic network was always built to handle fast broadband in the first place, so (in my opinion) far more stable than the converted BT network.

Although unlikely, do you have any TV boxes (youview, sky etc.) connected to the internet? If so just try pulling the ethernet cable out of them and see if it makes any massive difference. I've come across several similar instances of speeds reducing day by day that have turned out to be caused by a faulty tv box.

We've also had virgin since it was ntl - we tried sky for one year but ended the contract as soon as the year was up it was rubbish. We pay extra for the fastest speed cause there are four on us in our house all using our computers and without the virgin speed it would be frustrating

My bt broadband has been down since yesterday morning. Had to deal with betee's customer service and it's truly dreadful. Temptation to leave them is strong, unfortunately I work for them and the only perk is I get broadband for free.

Just out of curiosity what do people pay for their virgin package. I've got the internet with them and pay about £43 a month. I did have the tv package but got rid of it.

We have just the 50 Meg broadband with virgin. We don't have the phone line (not compulsory like people think) and we don't have the TV either. Costs us around £26 a month. With having 5 kids under the roof, the thought of a phone line petrifies me. As for TV we are more than happy with the 100+ channels on Freeview.

Please note, the original post from @Trevor is from February 2014. Just thought I'd mention it, to avoid anyone being confused. :)

After being with Virgin for years and threating to leave when they whacked the price up , I was given a great deal for the following 18 months and now pay even less than I was before .... £20.29 a month for Virgin Broadband, free calls to landlines and 0870 at weekends, 250 minutes worth of free 0845 numbers each month (although most companies now changed them to 0300 !) and the medium TV package..

I did price up how much it would be by taking the phone and TV off. as were pissed off with all the nuisance calls on the landline and could manage with just the freeview anyway..... somehow the price taking the landline phone and TV off the package came in at a higher price. (At least with the phone you get free calls to them if having any problems with the broadband)
