iPad problem, posting images

I use this iPad to browse & post on the Forum, but if I want to upload images I am forced to revert to a PC. Anybody else here using an iPad 1 who knows how to do this?

Open a Photobucket account and either upload the photos through Safari or using the Photobucket app and then get the forum codes from there.

This photo has just been uploaded to Photobucket through Safari.

I post all the time from my iPad and it allows me to upload pictures. I'm posting this from my iPhone and the "Upload a File" button is right there. Does it not appear for you? :hmm:

Hi db, yes I do have the "Upload a File" button but when the upload box pops up the "Choose File" button is greyed out. The info about max file size and permitted file types is all there in nice white type but I get no response no matter what I press in the box. I'd and you a captured screen shot but I have no way of doing it other than the cumbersome 3rd party route.

I have never actually tried posting from my iPhone because I find the process tediously slow due to the tiny screen/keyboard and my underveloped "thumbwriting skills"!

Update: Have now tried uploading from my iPhone and it works! Goes immediately to the picture roll. Unfortunately I rarely use the phone for any browsing or picture taking ( except when shopping to capture price tag information for comparison purposes) so there is nothing on there I care to share with Forumites.

I assume you've tried clearing out the cache to see if that might sort the problem out on your ipad

Not quite sure what you mean by the cache. I do give the system regular enemas via the Settings/useage route and if I have troublesome Apps I delete them and reinstall them.

Just as a matter of interest if anybody is thinking of subscribing to the Times & Sunday Times app then just DON'T! It is pathetically bad. The one star reviews outnumber the 5 stars by about 5000:1. The only reason that it even gets 1 star is that you cannot leave a zero or minus review so to get your feedback registered you have to give at least 1 star.

I mean:
Go to Settings
Select Safari from the menu on the left hand side
Then from the options that appear on the right Clear History and Clear Cookies and Data

Hi Pro, I hadn't tried that as I use Safari very little (apart from SF, of course) but decided to give it a go. Unfortunately the Upload function on here still doesn't work, withe 'Choose File' button still grayed out.

The Choose file button is coloured grey for me and I can still use it on my iPad. This pic was uploaded using the button as it's shown in the picture.

Try downloading a decent browser such as Chrome.

When you navigate to the forum, go into the settings menu (that's the button with 3 horizontal bars on the right of the navigation bar -where you type in www etc-) and select Request Desktop Site.

That will make it all work as if you were on a PC and everything should be OK.

If not then I'm buggered if I know what else...

Thanks big blue, on my iPad that 'choose file' button. is actually greyed out to the point of being almost unreadable, whereas in yr screen grab it is v. light grey and looks like a "live" button

I have done a screen grab and will post it on here when I have processed it via flicker, or whatever.

Have you allowed access to your photos in Settings/Privacy?

Have you actually tried pressing the "Choose file" button when trying to upload from Stafford Forum? I know it's a stupid question but I have to ask to make sure. :)

Ok, I already use Chrome as my primary browser. I will try your suggestion now & see what happens.

can't hurt to try, but just to let you know i use chrome & safari on my ipad and have never used that "request desktop site" option (didn't even know it was there until proactive mentioned it), so it definitely works without it..

i've just thought - you mentioned in the OP that it's an iPad 1 - i wonder if the early generation models can't do it, for some reason? what version iOS are you running?

Thanks db. I too have begun to suspect the age of my iPad may be an issue. It has run on the buffers in terms of iOS updates and I am using ver 5.1.1. Have found a growing number of Apps which I cannot download and some I already own cannot be upgraded. This affects probably less than 10% of the things I do with the IPad so I will tough it out for at least another year before I consider trading up. In the meantime I can always experiment with the Nexus which my better half gracefully accepted as a present last Christmas.
