No multi-taking? Seriously? So no music whilst sending a text for example?

To be clear, Apple’s iPhone and iPhone 3G both are capable of running multiple applications in the background. Apple already allows limited multi-task support to its native iPhone applications – like Mail, iPod and Phone. Unfortunately, the 128MB of RAM in the iPhone just isn’t enough to keep up with native iPhone apps as well as multiple third-party applications.

Dudes the iphone 3g can do multi tasking you can listen to music while texting or surfing the web or playing games, i do it all the time although it cuts out the music for phone calls but it does do it with a slick moition. you can only take videos if you set it free though

Right, so it appears its only difficult to multi-task third party apps.....

Regarding post #37 by DB... do we really think this will bring the price of the iPhone down much?

I wouldn't think Apple will allow that to happen - it would be akin to Tesco selling Levi's jeans on the cheap... it'll cheapen the product and once every man and his dog has an iPhone they will suffer from the (fake) Burberry effect.

Plus any cheapening of the iPhone will hit iPod sales so again they would lose out.

the iphone 3gs records videos out of the box, no jailbreak necessary.. the video is inferior to that of the new ipod nano though, apparently!
What do you expect, real fanboys will buy both ;)
i have only ever recorded 1 video on a mobile phone, and that was of andreas rex playing a penny whistle lol.. since i'm not a teenager and don't enjoy videoing myself doing massive bongs and kicking the shit out of pensioners, it's not a feature i'm really bothered about tbh lol..

Its the app store that bugs me, you can only run things that apple OK unless you hack it. I wouldn't touch the early ipods either because of iTunes.

<ANDROID-FANBOY> Just get a G2 instead. The iPhone looks a little nicer and has that Apple logo that is worth so much money... The G2 is simply a more versatile tool. As the (relatively young) Android OS gets better you can upgrade for free. It's a simple choice of style versus substance. Iphones are a nice lifestyle accessory, a G2 is a versatile & powerful tool </ANDROID-FANBOY>

Well peeps i gotta truly recommend itap it allows you wo pair your iphone or ipod touch with your pc or mac and take control, turn volume up/down next/prev track, have your own trackpad, keyboard etc but if you need even more then airmote is the way forward does even more. We have already established I am a nerd on a mac or pc so this should only be expected from me lol

I have had my iPhone now for almost a year (3G) and I can honestly say I love it. I have jailbroken mine as well (not illegal as some will have you believe, however unlocking is a little different.....) and I can now properly multi-task, theme, take videos on a 3G, have folders on my desktop, make ringtones out of my MP3s, tether, download youtube vids.... If you want your iPhone to do something then so does some one else and they have probably made a third party app to do it!

Definitly worth a look if you are a bit of a geek like me!

Pretty much why I want an Android phone, so many apps. Plus you can write your own easily enough, without the need to hack it.

I have heard there could be problems though due to the various different platforms, different hardware comnfiguration (processors, screen resolutions, etc....) A closed platform like the iPhone could have an advantage in this respect?

Agreed it has an advantage, its like consoles versus PCs. A game on a console will run the same on all consoles (mostly), whereas a PC game will look different. A PC has the ability to be much better though, with the right hardware. With an iphone you'll have to wait for the next platform if the current wont cut it, new android phones are released all the time and I suspect the constant updates of hardware will push development to use them, which in turn will push uptake of new handsets.

So, err, I dunno! I just know I prefer PCs to consoles, which is why I'm leaning the way I am. I suspect screen res will be the main thing to overcome if they want things to look nice, as scaling is crap!

Timeflies do you have any recommendations on apps that are worth downloading? There's far too much choice and most of what I have downloaded has been a bit pants.

Only just jailbroken mine and so far have only got a TV-Out app to watch free Skysports on my TV.
