Jewelers who buy gold

My sister-in-law wants to raise some quick cash and has some gold to sell. She doesn't want to use the "cash4gold" type things on the telly as she's in a hurry for money.

Can anyone recommend a jeweller who may buy it? Know any rates per gram?? etc etc

Thanks for any advice

Try this web site http://www.cooksongold.com/metalprices/ the company has a good reputation and is well established, I've copied and pasted their prices. They also have a section about scrap http://www.cooksongold.com/scrapgold/ that she may find useful.

I've never sold jewellery but I undertand It's best to go to somewhere established and reputable, her best bet is in the jewellrey quarter in Brum. If thats too far the only independant jewellers I can think of in Stafford that she could try is the one on Bridge street but I'm not sure they buy gold, the stores like H Samuels possibly may buy at the moment but if they do I'm not sure what kind of price she would get.

She doesn't have enough to be worth travelling anywhere like brum, and doesn't want to use any kind of postal service either.
Obviously this will affect the price she gets alot, but she just wants to walk to town with it and walk back with some cash.

Thanks for the researched info though
:)

The jewlers in the high street buy gold for cash. They will do it there in then. But hold on till later as the price will rocket, just as basil as said.

Gold is going to slowly rocket up as our economies begin the slow process of recovery.

Also remember they will give you a shit price.

There is a stand in the Guildhall hall today 'Guardian Jewellery' pricing your gold before you send it off. Though my advice would be steer clear, keep your gold for now.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: Google "cash4Gold" and read what the Americans say. It's quite illuminating.
WMR: They take ages and she wouldn't get much of it. :S

Radio WM did a feature on some of these places recently and found that some were offering (if I remember correctly) as little as 10% of true value.

As in WWII the US stored gold and have since maintained the gold reserve as the ultimate back-up to the federal reserve, this is a back-up to their constitution. The current crisis in Haiti suggests that the 'fed' will need to be supported, ie buying gold, Obama is gonna spend $bns and quite rightly to support and then develop what is a american nation. After the absolute disaster which we've seen reported it's quite possible that democracy will prevail and big changes in the government of this caribbean paradise will be seen in the next 20yrs...........

Let's hope so. Haiti was a disaster before the earthquake.

Altruistic intervention in such 'abandoned' countries is to be lauded. The British intervention in Sierra Leone was an excellent example - largely down to the late Brian Cooke.

Edit: I meant Robin Cooke - obviously.
