So I excitedly wait with bated breath all year for the first viewing of the John Lewis Christmas advert, it's the first sign (apart from putting up my tree in the first week of Nov) that the festivities are really beginning.

Personally I don't feel they've ever topped the traveling snowman ad from a few years ago but people seem very divided when it comes to this years ad.

I will say I do like it, I love the song choice and to me it's a nice story.

A friend of mine says it's sending the message that you have to buy a present to show someone you care - well I guess it is advertising, but my husband says the man is really creepy ( I don't see it myself) and it was suggestive of a 'Peeping Tom'.

Just wondering what everyone else though of it?

I like it, it's very touching as always. Love the song.
To me though nothing will ever top The Bear and the Hare.

To me the story is not to forget those on their own, even if they just live around the corner, they might as well be on the moon if they are alone at Christmas.

I kind of agree with your husband & I also find it creepy....& grey, dull & depressing....

Bear & hare was the best....it even made me cry!

I like it and agree with @Lucy that the idea is not to forget those on their own.

Oh that last bit of the fake news article above that @wildwood posted.....and how ridiculous it is that some people think "he is obviously a paedo because he is old and weird".

The mind boggles. He is just a sad lonely old man bless him. Some people dont half read too much into things.

You do have to remember that you live in a country where a paediatrician's house was attacked after she was described as such in the "press"...

Christmas adverts are nearly always sentimental claptrap designed to stir your emotions and make you rush out and buy all the crap you don't need from their stores.

Well except this year's Tesco advert which shows an alleged teenager following an early 30s women around the store and sexually harassing her.

This is a lovely advert for the Spanish Christmas Lottery. The tickets for the Christmas lottery are 200 euro so its normal for people to buy in a syndicate .....
You dont need to understand spanish to enjoy the advert.
Its lovely really.
