Julie Bailey of Cure The NHS awarded CBE

The downside is that this honour will be reported in the online versions of national papers. And among the comments beneath the stories will be some which appear to be written in text speak, swearing that everything wrong with the NHS/train services/weather can be laid squarely at the feet of Julie Bailey.

And these observers will proclaim that they come from Stafford. And it will become even more embarrassing to admit that I do, too.

And the fortnightly bin collections!

Its amazing how many people can't comprehend that the problems were always there, staff were telling me this a decade ago. But people are angry that she mentioned it, they were happier when their loved ones were killed of on the quiet and now want revenge (but not on those responsible, just on those who talk about it).

We'll done Julie, you deserve it !!!
I'm sorry I agree - unfortunately Stafford is divided - those that have had exceptionally bad service and those that have not.

Julie (and her team) had the courage of her conviction to stand up for those who either died or had shocking care.

If anyone puts anything against Stafford hospital get shouted down - would they be so quick if it was their family relative or friend that died or received a lack of care.

I wish Julie well and have nothing but respect for her.

My mother was one of the statistics, died very young due to incompetence and poor care, if Julie has stopped one family going through the same experience then it was all worth the effort.
Julie will always be a hero in my eyes.
Other family members have had their lives saved by Stafford hospital over the last couple of years and I would not hesitate to receive care there so it's not all bad. Hopefully the bad elements have been exposed and future patients will receive a better level of care.
I'm sure many will die on the A449 on their way to Wolvo but that's hardly Julie's fault. Our elected representatives have a lot to answer for.

Yes it is, she closed our hospital!?!?!? Every death on that road in an ambulance rather than by mistreatment in our hospital is on her head, people should be left to die closer to us :grr:

(Before anyone gets mardy of course I don't believe that)

Our elected representatives have a lot to answer for.

But they will not, they never do.

We all voice our own opinions in different ways - pros, cons, likes and dislikes snd all for our own reasons. My issue with her is not what she started, but how she so vehemently carried on after they started investigating properly.
I have had hospital care since 79, my Mum around the same time but lost her at the hospital in 2010 after she'd beaten cancer in 94 and eventually had other conditions, then Dad was under treatment for a lung condition then on chemo til he died last year. Yes, I saw indifferent treatment over a long period but not the exaggerated stories that were reported and calling for closure was a blinkered view with no plan B. I wasn't surprised to hear that when she had a hospital stay the staff still treated her as expected but weren't happy she was there!

I am so sorry - people like yourself need to be heard - without being told what you say is a statistic or lies. May your mum rest in peace - but she should have been here. Good luck x

I'll be honest and say I don't know much about this situation, I kinda read around it, so may have missed several pertinent items. I do however have reservations in thinking our government would commit a thorough inquiry in our interests in almost any situation without severe pressure to do so from sources they could not control. Keeping up that pressure keeps them "honest", in the absolute loosest use of the word. The only thing a government truly fears is embarrassment, mere lies and illegalities are par for the course. Make them look like pricks though and it sticks, the sheeplike electorate remember that.

So, what pressure that she applied was wrong and what better way could we have addressed it? I am curious, please don't take this as an attack on your views I honestly think that with the flak that woman gets I must have missed something!

I find it interesting that somebody with a group of followers can force their way into a lobby as a group, whereas many other demonstrating parties have to go through many motions. Support the hospital had to take a different route, eg. But who am I to question those above and beyond?
I went hrough a route of sending in official reports of what was wrong and I got official responses etc but didn't shout from the rooftops to shut the place down. Did I lose anybody due to the mis-care? Doubt it but I have a knowledge of care and comparisons over the years, but I have seen things that could have been done better.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean. Support Stafford Hospital had the vocal support of local councillors, the MP and the local press. It also had a very visible base in the Guildhall.

Julie Bailey started from a point where she had to drive the agenda. She didn't have any high profile supporters and much though I like David Kidney, remember he did some 'work experience' there and pronounced it to be in great health. The group that formed around her didn't seem to be comprised of people with special skills in social media or campaign experience - it was just ordinary local people who had lost someone they loved.

Julie still hasn't received any equivalent honour locally - our feeble, self-serving councillors couldn't even bring themselves to condemn a hate campaign against her.

I thought the main problem that people had with JB was her inability to keep her story straight from one interview/hearing to the next?
