I only go to the kings arms when I walk to games at Stafford Rangers. Sadly it's too far to walk on an average evening out. I will be going this weekend.

I have my doubts about familiar beers being temporarily lost for a "Tap Takeover" especially in a proper back street pub but I must say that, though I can't comment on the other four Rudgate beers, the Ruby Mild was really nice in the Kings Arms this lunchtime.

I had a November day in Stockport for the Robinsons Old Tom.
Two Robinsons pubs were included last month in my Macclesfield day out.
Stopping off in Peel Terrace this lunchtime I learnt that the Kings Arms has a Robinsons "tap takeover" during January, the three beers on two hours ago being Unicorn, Cumbrian Way and Tom & Berry.
Pasties are £1.25 and filled rolls or giant sausage rolls £2.50.
And with Banks's Mild in the Princess Royal and Draught Bass in the Waggon and Horses I'll be getting to the North end a bit more often now.

Has that replaced the Banks's Amber, the Greene King Abbot or the guest beer?
No, the Banks's Amber Bitter I've always known there is still on.
Paul recently additionally put the Banks's Mild on as another 'permanent' beer though he might lapse it during the summer as demand for cask beer drops.
Both beers are from handpumps in the rear lounge though only the Amber Bitter is indicated in the Bar.
The Bridge In Brewood is the next nearest pub I now know of with cask Banks's Mild.
That is with the Amber Bitter having replaced the Mild in the Cross Keys at Penkridge.

There's Exmoor beers on in the Kings Arms for a while now, Ale, Fox and Gold today - with Wainwright Amber as a fourth cask beer for those that want a Local Ale.

“It’s an odd pub

Mainly because it’s still open

It’s neighbour, The Albion, has an appearance of boarded up bomb site, lost several years ago, a passport to Pimlico comes to mind

Our pub looks like it should be closed from external appearances, sad and tired, but it’s open, and it opens a lot

There’s a jukebox, but it has no treble, instead it has just the bass, and so guessing a song title is a pounding experience, at the same time, two televisions show us sports in the single roomed bar

Young children run through the customers, playing with happy smiles

A board advertises pizzas, flat and square

It could do with a lick of paint, several coats in fact, but it’s open, so nobody cares

An elderly customer sits on his stool, nursing two pints, slightly annoyed at other customers waiting for their drinks. It’s his stool, but we can’t quite see his name on it

A Darts player steps backward carefully, nudging into drinkers as they await their pints, others sit astride stools in the window, glancing at daily life in the terrace

There is conversation, a hum, it’s odd. It’s unusual, it’s an open pub, and it’s almost full

The bar person works hard and remembers orders, her colleague bobs in with a pizza, presenting it as if a banquet in a Michelin restaurant

It’s the weekend, the pub is even, and it’s open, so why is that so odd?”

"it’s an open pub, and it’s almost full" and that can be a Monday lunchtime. Some pubs are closed all day Monday because they say there's no demand. Some pubs get things right, some don't.

"a passport to Pimlico comes to mind" and Jenners beer crates can be seen in that 1949 film. The South London Brewery founded in 1760 was registered in April 1937 as Jenner's Brewery Ltd but closed in 1964 after being taken over by Charringtons. Descendant Miles Jenner is the head brewer and Joint Managing Director of Harveys Brewery in Lewes, Sussex.

One of the few things I miss about no longer living on Victoria Terrace is the proximity to the Kings Arms.

Peter,
None of my fifty years living in Stafford have been up the North End.
Four west, fifteen south and 31 east weren't planned that way.
