Help!! My dell xps1300 screen won't come on, the laptop itself powers up but the screen is dead, please can someone point me in the right direction in hopefully getting it fixed?

First thing, is it obviously cracked/broken? Does it illuminate but black (if you know what I mean)? Do you have a monitor you can plug it into, or a TV if the laptop has HDMI?

But yeah, I'd go with WMR if you need it fixing.

Hi @Jobo

From what you have described it's unlikely to be the screen itself, although not impossible. It could be as simple as an inverter - if this is the case the image will actually be on the screen but no illumination. Try shining a torch at the screen close up at slightly different angles and you may actually just see the image.
It could also be an overheated graphics chip. In this case it's an expensive repair that isn't worth doing in 90% of cases.
Faling that, a small chance of the screen itself needing replacement, or a few other things it could be.

Either way, no charge for diagnosis if you dropped it off to me.

Hi, thank you for replying. I followed the advise of the other member and did the HDMI cable, the screen did eventually come on, for about 2 mins then flashed up with a graphic error. Restarted it and screen came back on shortly after another message came up

Without seeing the error it's hard to say, but I expect you'll find it was something along the lines of "the graphics driver stopped responding but has now been recoevered". If this is the case, it's the overheated graphics chip and you might aswell start looking for a new machine.
