Local vets for a dog (plus other questions).

When she's grasped the basics I would strongly recommend teaching her to drink from a bottle with a sports cap.

It saves loads of faffing around with other drinking vessels and such paraphernalia.

Interesting update on the pup, the seller was a little bit economical with the truth to say the least.

Not had a dog since the days they were given away freely, so all new to me. I didn't realise that the microchip is meant to be registered to me by them. When I tried to register it needed a vets code, which I didn't have. I did however have the vaccination card, so I decided to call the vets, who I then realised were in South Wales and alarm bells started ringing. I explained the situation and she asked for some details off the vaccination card that were missing, he'd only handed us half of it. She then offered to go through their records for me to track her down. She found the original owner, who'd sold her just one day before I bought her (and for a lot less). Obviously with covid I couldn't go in to see the dogs, he brought her out, and while there was a dog in the yard I have no way to know it wasn't related. I've had a chat with the breeder and it seems the guy is buying up working dogs across the welsh farms to resell despite saying she was to be a pet, so we've had him banned from the site he was advertising on and they are alerting whoever deals with it that he's selling pets without a license.

On the plus side I now know more about Mango's history, her mum was ill from week 2 (ate a bag of broad beans!) and she was hand reared for a bit which probably explains her calmness with us. The original vets have confirmed that she's fit and healthy, the breeder have told us her parents herd 600 ewes on a welsh mountainside but due to the hand rearing they thought they'd lose some of the parents instincts hence going as a pet. Explains her trying to herd the robot vacuum!

So despite trying to be really careful and not buy the dodgy looking ones in Stoke I ended up not knowing what I bought anyway. Going the KC route would have ensured this didn't happen, for an extra 2k, but I was actively trying to avoid a pedigree as I actually just wanted a mutt!

My friends have a working collie, she's interesting. I'm sure she'll be always trying to keep the pack together.

Yep. We go away with them sometimes and my OH always ends up at the front if we're going for a walk, so the dog has to walk with him, and constantly turns round to make sure all 4 of us are there.

At least you know she's healthy & happy and now has a good home, which is all that counts. Love hearing the stories about her, keep it up!

At the end of the day she's with a loving household now and how you got her is only a minor annoyance in the scheme of things.

If you're in contact with the actual breeder can they provide you with the details to register her chip or has the vet done that now?

Didn't Mango's South Walean accent give you a clue? :)

Thats why she doesn't understand when I tell her to poo outside then, she only understand Welsh!
The chip is all sorted now, there was a delay for some reason in the emails going to her so she hadn't registered them to the buyer, hence him trying to flog them as bred by them and hoping she sent the codes to him on time for when I asked him. The breeder was very upset she'd been lied to, but is really happy she's come to a good home. She asked if I had any livestock, wonder if my brothers friends count....

Actual dob is 20/11/2020 not 27th, and she's due worming today not next week. Was flea treated a week ago.

In some places, the police dogs use an obscure language, to avoid suspects being able to countermand/confuse orders from the handlers.

In San Antonio, there were Irish-speaking dogs at one time.

Some sort of collie thing has retired to the house across the road here - the most competent and organised dog I've ever seen. She was shown round the place once and just 'understood' the whole situation. She'll wander down and sit on the footpath now and then, keeping an eye on things, especially if I'm doing anything at the front.

She’s gorgeous, very jealous. I’m still looking for our first dog. Looking forward to watching your journey together

Any plans what you want? She's my first, although we had dogs as a kid. I really just wanted a 'dog', no breed as such, but impossible to find nowadays. Or rather you'll find a mongrel crossed with a mongrel for a grand but they're all the toy breeds with health issues :(
