Hello all,

I know there is alreday an event for this but seeing as its after the event I thought it would be good if we could have a dedicated thread to post all pics, videos and anything else that was to do with the torch relay through Stafford.

So I will kick start proceedings by sharing my pic took from the roundabout outside New Look... Hopefully everyone can see these as they are on a public Facebook album and also on a public Flickr set!!!

Let me know what you think and please post anything you may have!

Rome burns while the masses watch someone with a flaming torch run down the road!

If only those same people would get off their backsides and take to the streets about what really counts!

I've got a lovely panorama of the Swan beer garden that was deserted as everyone ran to the street outside to watch the torch go past - that was lovely

I ♥ cryptic crosswords
So the Olympic Torch looks like a baseball bat with woodworm

I've seen better looking Sierra Cosworth exhausts than that!

At the risk of sounding miserable (perish the thought) I found the whole experience a bit of a damp squib. On the plus side it was great to see the huge numbers of people who turned out and waved flags etc - it really brightened up the town centre. The actual torch "once in a lifetime experience" though was pretty mediocre, I left feeling that I really could have lived without seeing it.

Firstly the torch looks like a silencer stolen from a blinged up Honda VFR1200. Said exhaust was followed around by literally hundreds of hangers on - the level of security is totally over the top, loads of people who are being paid to more or less do nothing. It seemed more of a case of the Met Police showing off their shiny new motorcycles that they can ride whilst playing the sirens and horns - basically just showing off. At least a crumb of comfort can be taken that it was the Met Police & not Staffordshire Police and so whilst our taxes have been going toward the London games at least we don't have to pick up the tab & expenses for this show of the ridiculous

It was a once in a lifetime opportunity for the police to be cheered by an adoring crowd. I was surprised at the amount of actual police in the town centre when all we normally see are the Community Support Officers.

Personally I thought the torch was more like a Golden Cornetto.

It was good to see so many people out and about enjoying the event and I enjoyed the day a lot more than I thought I would do but that might have been more down to the Peroni in Casa rather than anything linked to the Olympics.

Does no one have a job any more? Pretty much everyone I know was there - presumably they booked the day off or were local employers generously letting people have the afternoon off to participate in this nonsense?

Your photos are really good Timeflies - if you had swung the camera about 6" to the left I would have been on most of your pics but you just managed to get the people I was with instead!
It was a great afternoon, lovely atmosphere - as some have said the torch itself was a bit of a disappointment but it was great to see the town looking so cheerful and so many people turning out. drinks in Casa afterwards were good too - they should open in the day more often - really good summery atmosphere helped along by the BBQ!

I was on Newport Rd with neighbours and friends. We rounded the evening off with a barbecue and some booze. I certainly enjoyed it along with many others.

In the words of Frank "But all of them to a man... who knows first and formost the most vital necessity is this life is they know how to throw a PARTY! "

Geoff Wheat who carried the torch from tesco to the Town Centre, made the built in wardrobes in my bedroom a couple of years ago!

Rita Banks is a good friend of my mum who I have encountered many times when walking with Staffordshire Long Distance Walkers. She is a Veteran Marathon runner, who has many titles and records and was awared the honour, as she is a notable local figure (in Stoke)
Geof was honoured for his work with the scouting community. I am posting this as I am so impressed with the way the torch has been able to give notable folks a spotlight in the media; but IMO the whole thing has been very well done, Thosands of folk lighning the Route, and a realy great feel good about it!

(Of course gives the cognatively challenged, self publising, idiot, another chance to tell us about his aquaintances, if we believe him!:ohno: Ed)

Obviously the torch itself was the main event, but I've seen very little pictures/videos and/or comments about the parade beforehand?
