I have noticed in town that alot of the pub,s and restaurants in town are offering some great deals on lunch time offerings. So I was just wondering what peoples experiences of lunch times are and if any one has any good recomondations I would love to here them. Or would it be better to just grab a pastie and sit in the park on my lunch hour

Like the sandwiches in the Rose & Crown, proper thick crusty bread and the home made mayo on the side is spot on.

Thanks for the suggestions guys I tried the turkey bap from the bap shop and I must say great value for money. Also nipped into the swan for lunch, was only going for a sandwich but my partner wanted to eat in the restaurant. We ended up eating in the bar which to my surprise you can eat off the same restrauraunt menu in the bar bonus. I had chicken liver pate and my partner had creamed garlic mushrooms. Bargain at £3.55 each then for mains I had a pork steak with a mustard sauce whilst the missus had the lighter option of asparagus and artichoke quiche both served with a side order of our choice another bargain at only £7.95 each. Will defo return.

The Rose and Crown is between the library/tourist information office and the Gatehouse. Pretty weel opposite Nicholson's estate agents. Market Street goes from Market Square to Eastgate Street.

The Bap Shop is at the back of Sportsco (ex-Woolworths) - just up from Argos.

I must be the most unobservant person in the world.

First off, I thought wimpy was still there. Mum used to take me there as a treat when I was young.....before MacDonalds was invented.

Second, I can't say I have ever noticed a pub between the library and the gatehouse. I am sitting here now trying to visualise it but I can't. The only pub I can think of near there is on east gate st , furkins or something but I think that is boarded up.

Anyway, thanks for the info, you are a helpful bunch on here.
