Mayor is on the move, but satellite surveillance is currently non-functional, due to charging issues - allegedly.

..and the Mayor Fund has reached 50% of its target..

Contact re-established - just crossing to west bank of the Trent and preparing for the gruelling ascent of the east face of Weston Bank.

Nice to meet the Mayor, his well-oiled support team and the welcoming committee at the Castle.

Donations now totalling £1,007 - enough to get the old 'Mayor' some way out into the Atlantic on her return trip...

Well done Mr Mayor and good to meet you. You've done a great job for a fab cause.

Need to dry out now...

I see that, as of now, the total monies raised stands at £1,027.00... and counting...

I am not a little dismayed at the whole Newsletter stance in this affair. Where were they?

The Newsletter appears on our shelves on a Thursday, does it not? The same day that this adventure started. If they had 'run' with this story, with the copy that hit our shelves on Thursday last, it would have raised awareness of this happening, would it not?

Had they 'run' with it, giving more details about it, and how you could get involved with it and how to donate too, it might reasonably be expected that more people may have donated more money and more money and more.

And yet they did not.

And it must be asked why they didn't? Was this an 'editorial' decision? On what basis? Lack of public interest?

It was not so long ago that we had a chap sign up here - let's not forget that this is a public forum, free to all who wish to speak their mind about this town that we may or may not (but let's face it, on the whole we do) love - from the Newsletter asking for this and that and the otherwise getting involved with our thoughts.

Well it cuts both ways. I'm asking you -

  • why was this story not covered in your paper?
  • did any representatives of the Borough Council put any pressure on you not to cover this story?
RSVP...

Not being in Stafford this weekend I couldn't greet his worship yesterday but can I just check...he is still going to be our mayor, isn't he? This wasn't a departing gesture?

I hope he realises that with great power, comes responsibility. He can't just keep walking and leave us with the palid impersonator.

Oh - and if you send your pictures in to the Newsletter they will be very likely to publish a story next week. I think that they have difficulties getting a photographer at the weekend. Email them in by Tuesday morning latest.

Mayor of Stafford

The REAL Mayor of Stafford
Does anyone have a copy of this they can send over?

Thanks to everyone for their help in all of this. You have all been utter utter legends.
