Mcafee protection expired on new 8.1 laptop.
Windows Defender cannot be turned on
Probably because McAfee is installed
Anyone successfully uninstalled McAfee?

Enjoying a drop of red.
Macafee is a waste of time, lets in as much as it keeps out.

Download ccleaner from www.piriform.com. As well as being able to clean out all the crap that slows your PC down it has a nice little uninstall utility that will with one click remove macafee and anything else you want rid of.

Personally I would replace macafee with the free version if avast anti virus. Does a much better job for nowt. www.avast.com.

The current issue of Computer Active has a review of anti-virus software. Kaspersky came out top with Avast being the best of the free software. McAfee came out as the worst of all the software tested.

Intel are rebranding the McAfee name to avoid association with John McAfee so McAfee Internet Security is now Intel Security. The change of name doesn't mean it is performing any better.

Thanks guys
Not as difficult as I thought, just followed removal instructions, but it left me with one folder that could not be removed.
Downloaded ccleaner which successfully removed the remaining folder.
Windows Defender was automatically switched on.
