I thought Sid and Flo Askey started their 17 year stint in 1959, they must have took over from Bert then. I'll have a look at the list behind the bar next time I'm in there. I know that a Bert Lockley was there 1929-40, wonder if he was the same.

Right, I believe Len was there in 1984. What was the Doss House? - not the Plough which closed in 75?.
Son John had Roses undertakers next door. He's still about in Wales with an Hotel.
Bob, was he a builder? was his wife Wendy? could he fix it?

Not very far back and apologies if I mention someone who has been mentioned - but Tony Carter and Linda Dewsnap who used to have the Spittal Brook, John Simmonds and Leslie who used to have the Shrew, and Becky Waterfalls mum who used to have the Rose and Crown back in 1999!! Can't remember her name but think they moved to one over Uttoxeter kinda way?!

Tony's daughter Debbie took over the Kings Arms with partner Phil and got married whilst still there in 2000. What was Phil's surname, anyone remember.

Yes there was, opposite the side entrance to the Cons Club. A friend of mine bought it some 12 years ago, got rid of the DHS residents and converted it into the Aviemore Hotel. Since converted into flats and renamed Aviemore Hotel.

Len of Proudlocks taxis, when would that have been - in the 80s?
He had a garage nextdoor to the Falcon, specialised in Jaguars, if I recall accurately. He did the sills on a Minor for me. We had a fancy dress do in the upstairs room in 1983 and he videoed it. The video is a classic, if anybody has ever seen a copy of it.

The Falcon, I used to drink in there in my biker days.
Len Proudlock was a lovely man, Mavis was his wife and she used to run a doss house.

The doss house on Lloyd st used to be called the Travellers rest I beleive.
