The Milletts store is closing down and they have everything at 30% off.... Always been an odd store especially with its layout....

Title altered to avoid possible confusion.

Millets closing down sale is this final?, cause I thought it had a closing down sale last year and year before. However I'm pleased they are staying in town as I found the staff very friendly and helpful.

How do I edit this?

I believe the previous "closing down sale" was company wide, after their parent company went into administration. After Millets was bought only some of the stores were actually closed by the new owners.

Yes its now part of JD Sports...along with Scotts and Ultimate Outdoors (which we have just bought a new tent from)....

The shop assistant in Millets told me that they have got to sell off all the existing stock as they aren't allowed to take it to the new store (Front of old Co-op building)

Take the 30% off thing with a pinch of salt.

I bought a pullover there last May, for £25. When they were offering 30% off in January, I thought I might by another, assuming it'd be on sale for less than £25. Nope .... it was still on sale for £25 with a 30% off label on it.

Possibly, except if you were buying something like a tent when it would make a considerable saving....
Funnily enough I'm in the market for a tent.

I've got a decent 2-birth but at my advancing years, I need something a tad more spacious. I need to see it set up though, and be able to stand (or kneel) in it, so buying one off the shelf isn't really an option.

Stafford Outdoor Leisure used to have an annual tent sale at Riverway - with tents erected for proper inspection - I'm not sure if this still goes on, but it might be worth investigating.

Go outdoors (Wolves and Hanley) and Decathalon (By Ikea) are both good for this.

Thanks. I think that's where I bought the one I've been using since 2004. Below's a photo from a few years ago, probably just as I'm packing up to go home.

I've not seen the Riverway thing for a few years, though this may have been because they've been held on the Spring Bank Holiday which is when I've been away recently. I thought they were great, and the only way to choose a tent. I used to go even if I didn't need one just to check out what other stuff was for sale.

Thanks.

They're on my list together with a garden centre near Codsall which has some set up (probably worth ringing up first).

ETA I won't need the new tent until RIAT (see photo above) in early July.

SOL may have drawn their horns in a bit in recent years, smaller shop and all that - maybe it still goes on, though - locals such as @Rikki may have more info.

We've just sold our old Hi Gear Corado 4 and bought an airbeam tent...purchased at Ultimate Outdoors but viewed the tent at Towsure in the Blackheath. UO had a 10% price promise and as there was a competitor selling it at a crazy price we got 10% off that price. The UO price was £450 and they sold it to us for £341....

If you find a tent you like that UO sell then be sure to see if you can use that price promise....

Thanks.

It sounds like I need to find a tent I like and then go back and check the prices on t'internet (incl eBay). I must admit I'm more inclined to buy from someone who's got tents set up for inspection if only to encourage them to carry on setting them up.

Btw we went to go outdoors in Wolverhampton and were disappointed with the tents they had out outside.... And decathlon in Wednesbury only had one tent up (and not very well)... Towsure had the best range on display
