Mobile 'phone sat' nav's

Spouting nonsense since the day I learned to talk
I've used the new Google app turn-by-turn directions twice today. I've tested it on routes I know and both times it's missed giving me instructions until after I have made the required turn. It also tried to direct me to Stafford College when I had chosen Stafford Borough Council.

Apple Maps turn-by-turn has never done that. It may have been missing a lot of satellite imagery in the beginning (amomgst other things) but it never missed giving me instructions during navigational use.

But neither of the apps are as good as the TomTom app for directions.

The Lumia phones have great SatNavs but they do not allow you to avoid toll roads (like TomTom on the iphone does). When the new iPhone operating system is released, they are dropping Google Maps and having their mapping provided by TomTom instead so you should be able to get SatNav on the iPhone for free.

that's weird because my lumia 710 lets me choose what to drive on and avoid toll roads and you don't need to be online to use it so no data hogging
