Gates open at 11:00 hrs and close at 18:30 hrs.

Entry £1 per pedestrian, via the Main Gate - or £5 per car* via the entrance to 5 Site.

Same sort of attractions as previous years - some horses, some dogs, some bloke on a quad-bike - no actual mention of a Gurkha Food Tent, but I'm banking on it.

Possibly some sort of climbing tower and, maybe, the odd aircraft.

*£10 for a coach/minibus.

I've yet to make it to the mod for any of their events but here good things. Always fancy the bonfire night event.

It is definitely the best local firework display.

They really should put the Gurkha Food Tent up on the grass by the Main Gate bus stop at the weekends...

Mmmm, don't think I know what it is I'm mmmmming at but it looks good, I agree there should be Gurkha food tents popping up at a bus stop near me! X

Please do not be misled by this sign near the Main Gate.

There may be aerial activity on the day, but it won't be the Red Arrows.....

I sauntered over and was surprised by the fact that I saw no other people heading that way - I even checked the date, but the gate staff assured me that it had been very busy earlier - and there were lots of people when I got to the main area.

A lot of pedestrians will have passed by Stafford's other St Chad's church on the way.

Other Armies are available, the Salvation Army band displayed great tenacity in playing through the truly atrocious Tannoy blare.

If I had been running a fairground ride at an MOD open day, I might have made the effort to have my flag the right way up.

The Tactical Supply Wing display is still there.

Though, the Wessex is getting a bit worn.

Apart from the departure of the Army flight training helicopters at about 3:15, there was no aerial activity today, which was probably just as well....

The Wombat is still there, too.

There were a few classic cars, including this nice MG.

Some areas were taped off for safety and security reasons - including this tree stump.

The area where the main events were is used for the odd helicopter landing and this sign is intended to avoid Foreign Object Damage to aircraft.

But, it didn't stop some builder leaving this steel banding a few feet from the sign. Not ideal for having wrapped round your rotors....

Ooh, that gurkha food tent looks ace - I'm always surprised there's not a restaurant in town
They shifted a fair quantity of food today - I'm convinced that a few of them could run a very successful snackery in the Market or elsewhere - I would be there, anyway. It's not that clear in the photo, but they make a very colourful spectacle in national dress.

It's one of the highlights of the year for me, I try to make a point of being here on the day.

I'm not sure of the technicalities of what I had today, but it was along the lines of Bombay potatoes, probably pork dumplings and veggie samosas. There would normally be a greater variety, five or six items, but I hit them during a restocking phase and said they could just lob on whatever was lying about.
