@ tek - did you ever look into getting a task killer?

My missus has a Desire on 2.1 and thats as fast as shit off a shovel so can't understand yours being slow. 2.2 is supposed to be stupidly quicker in comparison to 2.1 though so if they ain't getting official with it - GO CUSTOM!!! :)

DB, so just got me some Super Mario action.

I'm back again... just upgraded my Hero to 2.2 Froyo.... WOW it is fast so far....

Wonder if an official 2.2 will ever come out for hero (or even official 2.1)?

Regardless this 2.2 rom is customised too and looks amazing.

Anyone else tried it?
I have not upgraded my ROM/OS since I first got it and rooted the bugger (think it was jesusfreak but not 100%).

I am a little out of the loop now, what newer ROM/OS would you recommend that will revitalise my struggling Hero?

I've just got FroydVillain 1.1.1

Not tried any others but this one seems ace - http://www.villainrom.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=45&t=2357

Note the section on "Issues Outstanding" though and also this rom only has three home screens which caught me out (but doesn't really bother me).

what do you all do with your home screens?? i struggle to fill 3 lol..

my main screen has the htc sense clock/weather widget, with a calendar widget under that, then the bottom row is gmail, people, messages, and a direct-dial to the missus..

swipe right has facebook widget, then some social shortcuts underneath (twidroyd, engadget, bbc news, camera, barcode scanner, calculator)..

swipe left has google search, direct dials to 4 ppl, then widgets to turn BT on/off, wifi on/off, profile to silent on/off, android market, and google maps..

i don't use my phone for anything else! my other homes screens are literally empty..

My previous comment on this was incorrect - the rom has LauncherPro installed as standard and i wasn't familiar with it... however I now know you can choose the number of screens from 1 - 7....

Happy days.

I ♥ cryptic crosswords
I have an HTC Desire and I can almost answer telephone calls on it now

I just need to remember to do that sweeping your hand down the screen thingy and I am on board with you crazy cats..

Can google maps do turn by turn navigation? I thought it could, but can't find the option?

Anyone know a decent one, preferably free?

Found it, can't pull in saved maps though from what I can see :(
i had never really used google maps other than (as with most apps) to go "oh cool, it can do this".. then i had to go to cleethorpes the other weekend, so went to google maps (on the 'puter) to plot my route.. once i had it, i noticed an option to "save to my maps" or something like that.. so, i did that, just cos it sounds nice and i assumed it would sync somewhere on my phone, and promptly forgot about it..

anyway, the day of the journey arrived, and i had the step by step instructions emailed to myself so i could bring them up on my phone via gmail.. as we got close to our destination, we got caught in some pretty severe traffic, that started to make us doubt our direction-taking decisions.. so i called up google maps on the phone, went to "layers", and sure enough found the aforementioned "my maps", where i could call up the route i had planned and saved the other day! i clicked on it, and instantly some robotic woman instructed us to turn left at the next roundabout..

suffice to say, the rest of our journey was dictated, and got us exactly where we wanted to go.. i was well impressed, especially seeing as i hadn't planned on using it and had never done so before, so i had to do it all flying by the seat of my pants/trousers, as it were!

Nice! The hummingbird chip in there is supposed to be fantastic and great graphics processing from what I heard too.

Funnily enough I just held one in a shop in town. Very nice in the hand, quite big but then big screen.

I have heard about GPS problems on the Galaxy S, have you noticed anything?
