Hello all you lovely people.

We are planning to move to Stafford soon as my husband works in London.

Can anyone suggest any nice places to live ... or more importantly avoid!! Ha ha.

We ideally like being surrounded by countryside, walk to lovely country pubs, not too far from train station.

Any suggestions would be really appreciated

Hi, welcome, to be honest there isn't really anywhere massive to avoid, if your husband is commuting on the train I'd look at places in walking distance of the train station - and by virtue town - sometimes connecting buses etc can be a bit tempramental to the 'sticks' and driving / parking can get expensive.

I live on St. Leonards Ave, an easy 15 walk to the train station and town.

Traffic around town can get quite congested so if you live nearby it's a lot easier to walk.

Many of my friends live in and around Wolverhampton Rd

Currently in a detached converted barn, ideally something like that, but open to ideas,

Would like features/ fires log burners with a massive garden

You might struggle to find that exactly in walking distance of town but there's plenty of choice around the place, and prices arn't terrible either. A lot depends on how far from town you're happy being - good luck in your house hunt, I'm sure others will be along to suggest places too - we're a friendly bunch here pretty much!

Traffic is generally pretty slow moving, but does move (you might want to flick through the long standing .Traffic thread on here for an idea of recurring issues) - to Stafford - Stone is probably 20mins (and does have a direct, hourly train to London) and Eccleshall a little bit longer, but not much, it doesn't have a train station.

Any of the main roads around the town center( Doxey road, Newport road, etc) mostly Edwardian /Victorian, easily walking distance from town & railway station,

Oh wow didn’t know about the direct train from stone to London. Thanks will check that out
Beware, its quite a bit slower train than the Virgin ones from Stafford and, from December, it will be even slower, as it is scheduled to be diverted via Wolverhampton and Birmingham.

The Virgin trains, from Stafford take 76 minutes on the fastest services, and that will come down to well under an hour when the high speed services start, although thats still a few years off yet.

If you don't mind changing trains at Birmingham New Street then Penkridge south of Stafford has a station as do Bilbrook, Codsall, Albrighton & Cosford on the Wolverhampton to Shrewsbury line.

Wow well under an hour ? That’s amazing, is this the HS2 ? I’ve not heard much about it to be honest
