Which building are you in? Can't imagine too much use for most of it other than education, but I though staffs uni specifically refused to sell to another education provider? I guess each classroom could become an office, but that would either require on rather large company moving in or very many small ones.

Beacon Building, no, we said not another (Rival) University - as you can see we've sold it to a 'Chinese investor for education purposes' - I've no idea what that means...

Hmm, bit more news about what to expect would be useful!

If I get anything I can share I will - but I suspect there won't be a lot.
Academics move sometime between June and August
Last day of the Nursery / campus - so one assumes any other services like that (kitchens etc) is Sept 2nd

They'll tell us what they want us to know. It seems odd that someone from the other side of the world is prepared to pay money for something that people who were given it for nothing* haven't felt able to keep going.

*I presume that no money changed hands...

Interesting that the astroturf pitch will be available for a year after the rest of the site, gotta admit I have no idea what the usage of that is but I'm guessing fairly high.
Wonder what level the Chinese will be pitching the education at? I assumed the no rivals meant no degree level, but would be amazed if somewhere that size could survive on L3 and below. I can't imagine the apprenticeships side taking off to that extent either, its a big site!

If that's the case, what will it do to Stafford College?

I'm unsure. The college is in the heart of the town, easy public transport links etc. and L3 and below students don't 'normally' drive so the uni may not be the best site for them. That said they have a lot of space and can offer courses the college no longer does, such as plumbing. There is also an area review going on right now which may see mergers within the current Staffordshire group of colleges, which this would seem at odds with.

Councillor Patrick Farrington, leader of Stafford Borough Council, said: " I am looking forward to discussions with the new owners in the coming months and to welcoming them to our Borough."

Probably would have been a good idea to have had discussions before they sold the site ? :hmm:

I feel the land is being bought on the misconception it'll be used for a particular thing but turns out at a later date, they'll have the land for a while (until it turns into a yet another blight on the landscape), which they'll sell on to whomever wants it for whatever they like, at a profit.
No?

With the Stafford Borough Council Planning Committee - anything is possible

Re your statement - Most things on the planet were bought for one use, and 500 years later they are probably being used for something rather different

ICI - as was - bought the farmland north of Parkside, now a Taylor Wimpey housing estate ( par boiled ) . They had no plans to make paint - just lots of money. And did so

Chinese buy land next to UK Military HQ

Red Army!!Red Army!!

Re your statement -Most things on the planet were bought for one use, and 500 years later they are probably being used for something rather different.

500 years is fine JM, I'm talking a few years, it's a kick in the balls.
Let's say that land gets/has been bought on the good intention of staying an education facility, but within 5 years the venture turns sour and the current land owners (the Chinese from what I gather) decide to sell it on (no doubt, at a profit) and get out while the going's good, the future buyer of that land could be any number of brain dead money bags wasters, lets say WimpeyHomes and is again a sight for a gazillion new houses or whatever, which in turn dilutes the infrastructure of Stafford.

Would there ever be a consideration of having a contract in place (that can't be broken) to...

...you know what, I can't be bothered, I can't even bring myself to type out and explain my hate regarding the inconsideration of the people in charge and their lack of structured knowledge on what is best for a small part of this country (and the rest of it for that matter), who would never consider history as a lesson that can be learned from.

That's why I love you so much

Just a great shame that a previous vice chancellor (Christine King) whose major interest was
in The Holocaust should see Staffordshire University sold to a country which saw fit to run
tanks over its own people's bodies.
