Anyone know why the multistory car park has been closed for the past few days?

Call me suspicious, but could the council be playing this "safety fear" up a bit....

Whether its to get people to use the new car park on the old Riverside site (to justify doing it maybe) or whether they want some reason to knock the multi storey down... or something else I don't know..

Good points well made, if there are risks then who is in danger? Car drivers, pedestrians within/outside the building, the winos who gather at one corner of the site, the ducks and swans on the river,........ or maybe the investors in the new car-park?....allegedly.........

Surely it was to be demolished anyway? However as that development stalled, it means there is an unneeded car park now in town. Unneeded by the owners of the new one anyway.

Multi-storey still local authority owned, but who has dealings in both?.........

It's getting difficult to park anywhere in Stafford now. Staff at the Borough have no parking available! Who owns what? Trent City owned all the land around Borough Council but went into administration. Its probably been bought by them under a different name. According to the Newsletter the Tesco multi-storey parking is unsafe - probably concrete crumbling. Perhaps the councils want us "to get on yer bike"

They're probably being very sensible. Mulit-storey car parks of that era falling to bits / collapsing isn't entirely uncommon. Wasn't that long ago one in Wolverhampton fell down!!

True

The car park in Pipers Row Wolverhampton collapsed during the latter part of the last century, in spectacular fashion

The adjacent car park owned by the Excess & Startle was then shut for a year for £2million 'refit'
