Maybe he is. It was the same style as this one* on the way to Uttoxeter - I've been checking that every time I've gone past since the mid 1970s and I've never seen anybody there.

* It was rather better-built than our house was.

I've examined that picture carefully and there's little doubt that that is an alien artefact. And the reason you've never seen anyone there is because they've all been abducted.

This sort of thing happens a lot on the way to Uttoxeter.

I lived in Lincs in the 90s. Public transport hadn't moved on too much even then.
I was there for three years. I lived in loads of other places, but there was nowhere else anywhere near being as miserable as that. The school "bus" was a van with wooden bench seats, we all slid to the front when anything as exciting as a sudden brake application occurred. An hour to go the eighteen miles to school every bloody day.

I have no recollection of ever seeing the Sun in that time.

We lived on the top of what they called a 'cliff'. You could ride a bike down it without needing the brakes.

I remember being told by a local kid, in a most excited tone, that he had been to Nottingham.

If you look down at the grid by the kerb, you can see the shadow of the flying saucer...

Da da da dah da da dah.

Currently in Birmingham with friends waiting for the Strictly Live Show to begin.

We've just had a fab meal, a few bottles of wine, we're ready, the atmosphere is great.

Let the show begin.

Still shaking this afternoon after an early morning message from son , he'd just been mugged in Barcelona as he walked back to the hotel with his 6 mates . (In a split second the scumbag wrapped his leg around sons and grabbed his wallet from his front trouser pocket. Luckily son had only taken that days budget of euros out with him, scumbag got away with the cash and debit card which he cancelled straight away. Very worrying what could have happened as he chased the thief , who at least dropped the driving licence ID and EHIC card on the floor as he fled with his 'takings' :hmm:

I spent the early hours re-checking with his bank that his card had been stopped successfully and no transactions since appearing ....

We were in Barcelona in October with son and his girlfriend.
Unfortunately it’s got the reputation of being the worst city in the world for theft and mugging.
They are experts at watching where you keep your money and then just going for it.

I made son and husband wear waist bags with the zip locked with a safety pin.
Myself and sons girlfriend did the same.

I hope that your son isn’t too shaken but it’s a lesson learned.
He won’t make the same mistake again.

I'm just so glad he wasn't hurt, and his passport and todays euros were safely back at the hotel.
It's made him very jittery today, spoilt his last day there after such a good time. At least they didn't get his phone so he was able to cancel his bank card within seconds.

I don't know how the guy managed to get the wallet out of that tight fit front pocket. A well practiced technique! They had already earlier managed to fend a transvestite off who was trying to steal his mates watch. 7 well built 23-30 year olds walking together and they still get targeted !

(Although we were once at a works do in Crewe hall and a magician managed to get a watch and money off someone on our table of 8 without anyone even noticing, despite us all watching his hands so closely .... rather scary.)

Hoping he doesn't let his guard down for even a second whilst at the match tonight at the Nou Camp .

Feeling proper miserable, got a kidney infection, a consequence of which means I'm peeing a what feels like a mixture of razor blades and battery acid about every 45 minutes or so.

Hope he's ok.

I thoroughly recommend one of these, been all round the world with mine and wouldn't travel without it. No way could any opportunist get past it's double locking system. Slashproof and goes diagonally across your body. Truly amazing and worth every penny!

He’ll be fine tonight.
Most of the pickpockets find easy pickings around the Ramblas area.
They won’t want to pay for a ticket to get into a game when they can thieve elsewhere.

And anyway, your son will be on his guard, the incident fresh in his mind.

He’ll have a fabulous time at The Nou Camp, we didn’t see a match unfortunately, but we did the Stadium Tour.
To see a match must be amazing.
He will have a fantastic evening to remember and therefore not let a horrible 10 minutes define his holiday.

Oh dear you poor thing.
Sounds absolutely horrendous.
I hope that your wife is dishing out the required amount of love, sympathy and support.

Mind you, try giving birth, then you’ll understand what pain is.

They had an amazing time and fantastic view from their seats . Walking back to their hotel as the trams are rammed (Google says 70 minutes walk) . Looking at the map , the nightclub they were walking back from last night is very close to Nou Camp :o
With his phone about to die, I'm waiting for that reassuring call to say they are back in the hotel for a couple of hours kip before the 4am airport transfer .

(Going greyer worrying now than when he went travelling around Japan on his own at 18 for over 5 weeks, with one hotel in a notoriously dangerous mafia area  )

So now there is a very much alive mouse under my tumble dryer.

Let's retrace the steps that brought us to this situation -

House: Should we get a cat?
Me: Absolutely not.
House: Why not?
Me: Because it will catch things and then kill them.

Outcome - House acquires a cat

House: Should we put in a cat flap?
Me: Absolutely not.
House: Why not?
Me: Because it will catch things, bring them into the house, and then kill them in the house.

Outcome - situation is fluid, but pretty feckin predictable

Stupid fecking cat.

Thanks @Carole.

It is.

She (partner though, not wife) is.

I'll do my best to avoid this, though I think I'm too old now.
