New Birmingham to Manchester rail route

Will be announced on Monday as the northern half of the HS2 along with a similar one to Leeds

I am presuming it will run to the East of Stafford but the only stations enroute will be Crewe, with a seperate line to Manchester Airport

appears to show the route to the West of Stafford, but the citation isn't working and I can't find the original .

I understand that Crewe station will be for southbound trains only

Just spoke to shiny face Dave and he says it will go in a straight line ish from Rugeley to Stoke so the nearest it comes to Stafford is probably Chartley castle

Stoke wont be getting a north or a south station just a pull in for prams

A straight ish line from Lichfield to Crewe may come mighty close to Stone

It would have difficult to make it blend in here.

I think west of Stafford will avoid it... But there are places like Cannock Chase and the Wedgwood estate that may define a particular route

The first part of HS2 seems to end at Handsacre http://www.hs2.org.uk/interactive-map so my guesswould be to the east of Stafford unless they are going to run it parallel to the existing railway

Such a proposed waste of money, money which could be used to improve the current network or elsewhere. Some of the time savings are really quite minimal considering the size of the investment.

With a bit of forward-planning, it could have had an interchange with the Uttoxeter line at Hopton.
