New Parking Restrictions in Penkridge Town Centre

I’ve only just discovered today the proposed new Traffic Regulation Orders in and around Penkridge, especially those in relation to Church Lane and St Michaels Square. Unfortunately, the appeal deadline is also today. The proposals are available to view here:

Their appears to be 2 main reasons. Firstly, local businesses etc have suggested different parking restrictions will encourage more users to the village. Secondly, especially in the case of St Michaels Square, because Blue Badge Holders are able to park “ignoring” the basic restrictions, there is now a requirement to provide dedicated spaces for them so that they don’t.

This is despite, again in the area of Church Lane, a pub/church/bowling club which is mainly frequented in the evening when there is ample spaces. This will also lead to the provision of 13 Blue Badge holder spaces, which is completely excessive for demand.

All this will lead to the loss of approximately 25 car parking spaces, which are usually occupied by commuters during the day, with no extra provision for them. The car park at the rear of the train station is overcrowded already and results in cars parking all down the access road and into Monkton Leisure Centre. This will surely result in these people “abandoning” their cars in other locations within the village, as removing the spaces does not remove the need for those spaces?

Has anyone else seen these plans, or affected by them?

Seems just what you want in times of financial hardship. Make it difficult for passers by to spend their money with local shops.

What a brainwave! Mind you, Stafford BC has been doing the same for at least 2 decades, so it must be right...

When will the penny drop that those people who make these type of restrictions don't give a monkey's as they are on such a high salary they can afford the high price of fuel and drive to the super duper size shops.

The problem is mainly on Wednesdays & Saturdays when there is a mass migration from Wolverhampton to Penkridge Market. A lot of the Blue Badge holders amongst them just dump their cars on double yellow lines rather than queue for a few minutes to get into the market car park. It gives a very inflated impression of the number of disabled places required. The rest of the time it will suit my partner tho'. She has a Blue Badge and will have lots of empty bays to choose from on the other days of the week!
