Ok, I'm struggling. I've had a new phone for my birthday and I'm trying to make all the info on my old phone find its way to my new phone. So it tells me to make sure my old phone is on blue tooth, and then I.should be able to.transfer contacts...it doesn't. It also is telling me to.log into my Microsoft account...is that just my day to day normal bt email address or is this something else.
Oh I'm.sure there will be lots more stupid persons questions before I get sorted. This feels less like a nice gift but more of a painful torture :ohno:

What phone do you have Peggy? If it's Samsung they have an app that you can install to do it.

If I am the forumite that lives close to you I am more than happy to have a look. I can generally work this stuff out.

As for your Microsoft account, if you haven't had a Windows phone before, and don't have Windows 10 or Onedrive, you'll probably need to set one up.

Happy birthday @peggy :)
My daughter recently had a Microsoft Lumia (I presume that they are the same thing) . We had to make her a new Microsoft email account (hotmail) which I think is where it sends everything...I know that her contacts were saved to her sim, so they changed over when we put the old sim card in...

....bare with me & I will look & try to answer your questions when I get back from the school run :)

If your last phone was a Windows phone you should of made a Microsoft account, you can check here https://people.live.com/ if you are going to use the same Sim card Google how to save your contacts top the Sim on your old phone.

I've had a look at my daughters phone & on the front screen there should be a question mark with 'Lumia help & tips' written underneath - click on this then search 'import contacts' - it gives step by step instructions on how to transfer your contacts by Bluetooth from your old phone...(make sure both devices have the Bluetooth on & that your old phone recognises your new phone).

Along the same lines ....if anyone knows how to change the age on a Microsoft account so that the child can use Cortana I would be grateful of any advice!

... I have, unbeknownst to husband, bought a 3 rd phone, I'm hoping out of the three, I might work out one of them!!! Sshh, not a word. I'm sure he won't know which is the annoying bugger of a phone he bought me for my birthday and which is the second hand phone I've just bought from a friend....

... I'm guessing that you don't need help with this one anymore then?

Hubby has taken up ownership, how I smiled quietly to myself as he spent two hours trying to find his new number.

Managed to get it sorted Peggy? Lumias are a tricky OS to use when comes to things like this. What we suggest to customers is to use Gmail to backup your contacts and then once that is done, you can simply log into that account on your new phone and pull the contacts from the account to your new phone.

Thanks for that DigitalWorldSolutions. Hubby took over the phone, I'm totally lost with technology. I'm now trying to see what damage I can reap with an iPhone 5s!!
