New Sidebar: Yes or No?

You've probably all noticed the slight front-end redesign.. Trouble is, I can't figure out if I like it or not..

I like having the informational side bar down the side, and it opens up the possibility for other links/information to go down there, but is it at the expense of too much screen real estate?

I'll leave it like this for this morning, at least, so you lot can see how you get on.. Post your opinions, good or bad, here.. If you have any suggestions, let me know in here..

Oh, and not only is this place in desperate need of a new Stafford Forum banner, but I want to reduce the amount of space it is taking up.. I know some of you are a dab hand with Photoshop/Illustrator/etc. so if you fancy knocking one up you'll earn some serious skill points

i like it, saves scrolling down the screen anyhoo. also the 'top posters' lets you see who does the least work too!

When i first logged in, i thought 'jeez...someone's sabotaged our website!', but i'm getting used to it. Not entirely sure that i need to be able to see top posters etc whilst in a thread, asi find it a bit distracting.

i like the way you can always see who's online (without scrolling to the bottom of the screen) - handy if anyone pops online and you don't want to miss them..

but yeah, it does make the main forum feel a bit cramped.. might just be my normal "i hate change" mentality, though..

I'll probably get used to it, I don't like change either! The who's on line is a big plus where it is.

since you've tinkered with the design my avatars and usenames don't display properly. in some case i can tell who's posted.

Hmm.. I tried a few test profiles and everyone's looked ok.. Have you changed any settings in your Profile, by any chance (see the link in the top Nav Bar)? There are options in there to disable avatars/titles/etc. which might be messing with it..

If not, let me know which OS & browser you're using.. I'm guessing Safari seeing as you're a Mac zealot ;)

All joking aside, that's a good thing - I need to know this place works on all the major platforms..

Well, those of you who view The Forum at a decent resolution (i.e greater than 1024 x 768) will surely have noticed a difference to its presentation..

I've removed the size restrictions, so that The Forum will expand to fill your entire screen.. I have also removed the graphics which framed The Forum - whilst they looked nice, I felt they were unecessary and this place would benefit more from space rather than cumbersome fixed-width formatting..

I've tested it at 1024 x 768 and 1280 x 1024 and it all looks sweet like chocolate.. Let me know your thoughts :)

Who are you Mr Admin? Are you secretly (or not so secretly) one of us? Keeps me awake at night this does.
