Well yes at least Tilly returns :)
Tilly?
Tilly's like a watered down version of JM, OK the posts sound kinda the same, the presentation's almost the same but there's something missing.

If Tilly is JM, then what the heck happened over December and January?
Operation to remove parts of his character?

Anyway, this ain't the thread, sorry.

Enjoying a drop of red.
If it should have been open at about 16:55 today, then it wasn't.

It's a while since I've been in as my personal preference is the Floodgate,a both for the atmosphere and because it's handy for my chauffeuse to pick me up on her way home if/when I've had too much.

Shame if it did but I would not be surprised. Started off really busy but prices seemed to get more and more ridiculous to the point I don't anyone who goes there now when many did.

Maybe a lesson for trying to take advantage of your custom. That place should not be failing

It was always busy when I went it. In terms of its prices it's not that expensive, plus you are buying quality beer and gin which commands a premium.

It had very busy spells but it was only for a few hours, unfortunately not enough to make it worthwhile I guess. To be honest I rarely went in, the floodgate was my preference, but it was somewhere a little different to take people you wanted to impress

We don't know the reason for closure but I do not think it had the numbers.

A couple of times over the last 2 months I have wandered past at about 9pm from a packed Slaters to a virtually empty No7.

On days when they had the market which has been packed and on a nice day, just 2 people in there. It should be making a killing in that spot.

You go to the beer dock in Leek which has a very similar feel, size look and location and one would struggle to get in on a saturday market day.

Although No7 opening at 2pm is the start of the end of the busy period on a Saturday and you had to check it was open, in the Leek place they open at midday. I feel that was a chance missed to maximise probably the towns best footfall in the month.

It is a shame, it could be they priced themselves out- every time I went someone commented on the prices of a g&t, more competition, lack of social media presence or Stafford didn't support another venture. A crying shame none the less.

I must admit I stopped going in, as did several other people I know, when they took the real ale off (and, yes, I know they eventually put a bit back on).

It’s a shame as I always really liked going in there and they always mixed me up something lovely but in fairness I’m only in town once every few months for a night out so I wasn’t adding much to their custom.

Really gutted that no.7 has closed down, however having spoken to Andy on Thursday I'm glad he has made that decision.

Following recent tragic events he wants to spend more time at home and doesn't want the stress of running two pubs, so he has decided to close and not renew the lease.

There may be a pop up at no.7 when the cheese and ale festival is on.

It was great to see Andy back behind the bar at the Floodgate. Hes a top bloke.

I also had a very similar conversation with Andy last Thursday and came to the same opinion. I cannot image how difficult this is to deal with.

3 years ago I shared Andy’s vision of a bar when I let it to him. Being the first bar on the square I think he has had a pretty good stab at it. I think his heart has always been with the real ale side but I believe we will see a couple of pop up events in his final month of occupation - we can enjoy one last beer before it becomes whatever.
